One lap..who's done it in a 911
I am thinking of doing one lap in my '83 SC. Just wondering what experiences you've had and what I need to plan for specific to the car. (I know there's a host of other things to get ready for as well).

You might want to consider coming out west for the Open Track Challenge. It runs on west coast tracks only, but offers a lot more track time (and a lot less highway time) than One Lap.

David Goodman ran it in his 930, if he's around, I'm sure he'll chime in...

Yes Chris,
For the past three years I have run a '79 930 in the One Lap, and I will be there in 2004 as well. I highly recommend the One Lap and a 1983 911 is a great platform to do it. I take a great deal of satisfaction from campaigning a 24 year old car and demonstrating better reliability & performance then something that just rolled off the showroom floor. Specific to our cars, I would say that the most important thing to do is understand how your car does in high temperatures. We are going all the way to the west coast next year with a stop in Las Vegas. Temperature was an area where I had lots of problems my first year. As soon as I got home I bolted on a large spoiler mounted oil cooler. Expect the car to run over 12 hours a day. That said, I could go on for hours about car prep, spares, strategy, etc. I would be more than happy to share with you personally my experiences. I'll send you a PM with my cell number. Here are a couple of One Lap pictures. The first is Tulsa speedway in 2002. (don't worry no dirt in 2004) The second is my car getting a clutch in the middle of the 2000 One Lap at Franz Blam Racing. The guy in the middle is the famous Franz Blam himself. He actually wrenched on the car to help get me back on the road. ![]() ![]() |

Hi David - Remember me - White Cup car - that did not do so hot last year
![]() Chris - David is right - the event is great - challenging - stressful - boring - competitive - and full of suprises. I would do it again in a heart beat. That being said - i could also give yo some advise on car prep and general to bring lists and what not to bring. for instance you Need a CB - and a bear tracker is totally useless - You Need a V1, You Need a good Rain suit - etc. As far as car prep goes - heat is going to be the main problem in a 911 both for the drivers and the car - make sure your car is totally up to snuff before doing anything to gain power. if it overheats on the long desert transits your week will be ruined. the one lap brings together a great group every year and IMH is one of the great races today. Your 911 like david said is a great platform for it and has a lot of potential - too bad it's not 3.5 years older and you could run in vintage - as it is i think you are running in GT-1 so expect 700 HP corvettes on Nitros and RUF porsches or and maybe the Lambo again. If your going to have fun - i would not go too crazy with the mod's - if your going to try to place you need turbos (2 would be good) shoot me an email off list - rlynch@microsoft.com and check out my web site for pictures of last years event @ www.lynchracing.com
