Show me 911s with 8 & 9 x16 Fuchs!

I know this has probably been requested before, but I haven't found anything using the search function.

If you have a picture of a 911 with 8x16 Fuchs at the front and 9x16 at the rear please post it here.

Yes I'm considering replacing my Cup1 replicas, but don't get too excited - I'm still *considering*. BTW if anyone happens to know what offsets are preferred with 8s & 9s please mention it.

here's two of my '73- one at Ca. Speedway running the fully polished Fuchs 8 & 9s, and one at Qualcomm Stadium running modular 8 & 9s w/ black centers made up from 6 x 16" Fuchs and BBS barrels.

Offsets are 23mm on the 8x16" 944T Fuchs and 15mm on the 9x16s.

Joking aside. I'm very interested in getting forged quality wheels.

TTweed, thanks. Those offsets were also the ones that I could remember. I just wasn't sure.

89911, I love picture 2. Great picture! I guess your car is a low as mine? It really helps make the car look mean.

What about these? They are forged and build from scratch without using donor parts.

Probably very expensive

BTW if anyone has more pics please keep'em coming.

Same set up as Tom's first picture.

Here's a funny one where you can't see the depth of the 9's at all.

Mark, those 9s look like they have the same depth as my 8s.

On 9's, is the additional inch all towards the inside?

7s and 9s. Beefy look. Wheels make all the difference in a lot of way. Highly recommended upgrade.

Brian,
Here is a neat chart one of the board members did showing the differences. Sorry, I don't remember who it was , so can't give due credit.

The red convertible is looking good. Are those 15 inch or 16 inch.

Be careful how that chart is used, the data is based on bead width not actual width, all the back and front space #S will need to be adjusted to correctly position things.

It is great for comparison though.

With 8x16 at the front I would run 225/50x16. Has anyone had problems with that?

I'm running slight negative camber with the Cup1s to avoid rubbing. My guess is that I have to continue with that if I go for 8 & 9x16 Fuchs? I haven't rolled my fenders because I prefer not to do so.

Bill, It was me who created the chart. I did it for the exact reason you state which was just to compare sizes, specifically 8's and 9's. It showed me that visually, from a 'stickyoutness' point of view, there isn't much difference between 8's and 9's. I still got 9's for the rear though

I am interested in your comments though. Is there anything else I could add to it. If you've posted before explaining about this (I've a feeling you have) then can you post a link here.

Cheers

Andy Jones

Nick Moss (nick-moss) has a nice page about the difference between the 16x8 Fuchs and 16x9 Fuchs that would be used for the rear:

http://www.nicholas-moss.co.uk/porsche/carrera/html/rims.html

On his page you'll see that the faces of the 8 & 9 are just the same. So where the 9 is wider than the 8 is in the countersunk lug holes (pushes the wheel outboard if hub depths are same) and added the added width on the inboard side of the rim barrel

Also, the 911 16x7 (+23.3 mm o/s) and the 951/944 Turbo 16x8 (+23.3mm o/s) also look the same on the face side. Once again this is due to the countersunk lug holes on the 8 and the added width on the inboard side of the rim barrel.

I recall some people having a bit of trouble with the 225/50 on the 951 +23.3 o/s Fuchs 8. So a 225/45 may be a better choice. I believe that's what Mike (89911) did. I think fender rolling/shaving and extra camber is a must with the 951 +23.3 o/s 16x8?

I'm a little confused now.

Will a 9 inch Fuchs not stand out further than an 8 inch due to the different offset?

yes mine required a little rolling with the 16 x 8 fronts. I have the 225/50 - it was tight - especially on the driver's side - I think 89911 went with a 255/45 - but he's lower than I am too.

I don't think the real difference is the look but rather how the tire sets up on the rim a 225 on a 7" typically has much more "balloon" where the profile of the tire and sidewall is much straighter on the 8". Also think the 8" has more room for bigger brakes - if you are so inclined...
