Advice needed: 17's for an 84?

I need some advice on a set of "relatively" lightweight 17 inch wheels for my 84, and I don't have the budget for Fikse's. I've read here that Mille Miglia's are heavy.

What options do I have for wheels (used are fine) with a $1,000 budget, tires extra?

I've got 7x8x16s now with S03s, lowered, 22/29s, Chuck's brass bearings front and rear.

Thanks

Shaun

I would think it is going to be "relatively" hard to find "relatively lightweight 17's for $1000. You might come across a set of track wheels that don't look so good for that price.

Sorry, meant $2000 assuming I could get $1000 for my Fuchs.

Anyone know how these compare to Fuchs in weight:

Oh, you should be able to get some used Fikse's for that.

The factory cup wheels in the picture are just as lightweight as the Fuchs. Keep in mind that is the wrong offset for your car. You'll need spacers if you use those.
You'll also be very lucky to get 1K for 7x8x16 Fuchs.

thanks for the info on Cup wheel weight and need for spacers; I really don't think I'll have a tough time with the Fuchs via EBay or the Pel Classified board. We'll see.

Hey, I have an '84! And I have 17's!
I got these off Ebay brand new for just over $1k (just the wheels). Not sure of the brand right off hand, but a lot of the parts mags has them for $500+ each...

A good set of factory cup II wheels can be had for well under $1000. Plan on about $400 for the spacers though. I think these look great on 80s Carreras, and they aren't that heavy.

Send me an email about your fuchs. I may be interested.

Hey Jack,

Your car has a blueish tint to it sometimes. Is that the reflection of the sky or some filter on the lens?

That's a good question. There's definitely not a blue tint to the paint on the actual car. But it could be that the (pretty old) digital camera I use has a hard time with the amber-colored light you get near sunset, and tries to compensate, somehow.

And yes, that's me in the reflection on the front passenger fender. I'm out on an outcropping of rock (risking my neck for the picture), with a big ravine behind me. Here's the reverse view:

agree 100%, also stay away from the cast center MMs et al. They have no place on a tracked car.

For ~$2k used Fikse or Kinesis can sometimes be found

Later wheels like the ones in the link open up some interesting possibilities, the +55 7s would need ~30mm spacers, the +55mm 9s would need 40mm spacer. The interesting possibility at the front is a smaller spacer w/ the '81 on 930 rotors

Personaly I think you're better off w/ the correct o/s Fikse or Kinesis or BBS wheels or stick w/ the 7" Fuch and get a set of 9s for the back.
