Dropping engine from 84 911
I have a friend with an '84 911 who I promised to help drop the engine. I have done this a couple of times with my '70 911 but I remove the rear valance plate behind the muffler to roll the engine out from under the car. My question is, with the different rear bumper how high do we have to raise the 84 911 to get the engine out.
Thanks,

If it is anything like an SC, the answer is either "Pretty Damn High" or "Insanely High"!
Seriously, the first time I removed the engine, I tried jacking it up to the required height, and it was stunningly high to my eyes. I just pull the bumper to avoid that. Even with the bumper removed, it still has to be pretty high. |

The top of your jackstands will need to be at least 21.5" above the floor, where they support the car at the torsion bar covers. That's with the valence removed, bumper installed. I cut some 9"x9" boards, stacked to 5" high on each side, under the jackstands (3-ton, standard size). Works great, lasts a long time!
