Great to see a young enthusiast like yourself get such a warm welcome. I also bought my first one at the age of 22. Now I'm 39 and I think I've owned about 15 of them.

You're also wise to train your girlfriend early on in the relationship! I did the same thing with my wife. She tolerates my disease up to 3 Porsches at a time - if I take it beyond that I usually have to do a little jewelry shopping to quiet her down!

Thank you again everyone for such a warm welcome. I cannot believe how many of you have responded to this thread--simply amazing. I have decided after seeing more pictures of Metallic cars with polished Fuchs to go ahead and when the bank account permits to find a set of 8's for the rear and polish them out. Actually, Al Reed will be doing the polishing because I simply do not have the time right now and he does great work from what I have read here. If anyone is going to the Eurofest at BMW send me a PM and maybe we could meet, I don't know my schedule yet but I might be able to get over there since it is only 15 min. away. Thank you again.

I'm on my third Porsche now; went from a Arena Red 993 to a '89 Targa to my '88CS - long story.

Those shiny wheels do look nice but I prefer the stock look on my Fuchs!

My 22 year old son is hooked on the MR2 and his shifter cart but I know he'd love to have a Carrera too!

Awesome car! I bought a '73 911T in college (Go Buffs!). Being broke, I couldn't afford the care and feeding,so she had to go after about a year. I also had a 914 my freshman year, but sold it to a friend. now 10+ years later, I only barely feel comfortable owning the car...but since I can fix most of my own issues now, its less of a problem. Please don't take this as discouraging words...just relating my own P-car experience. Reality is that when I hear the motor sing and scope that beautiful ass-end I just can't stop giggling to myself...

Tom, love the black headlight trim rings on your CS. Are they the separate, paintable rings attached? Or are they without any separate trim rings installed?

Those are the actual painted trim rings. Glad you like the look; it kind of grows on you. I'm thinking about shooting a matching silver set for the coming concours season.

Rumor has it that someone in the Bay Area has purchased a '88 CS from a guy in SoCal. I need the competition.

Glad to have you Dan! You're very lucky, I had to wait until I was 32 to buy my first Porsche and it was a 924 no less! Of course, it was a very nice 87 924S with the 944 drivetrain...



I then picked up my 69 912 when I was 33...



and sold the 924S when this 75 911S came along...



I'll be 34 in a couple of months and the obsession just keeps getting stronger! These cars are keepers but I have my eye on another one... that's the beauty of cars, you can just keep buying them and the existing ones never get jealous!

Well, since I started this thread a long time ago I thought I would give an update. I will celebrate my one year anniversary with the 911 in two weeks and I must say it has been one hell of a year. I have logged just over 15k and I am still almost as happy as I was pulling away from the PO's house.
I have learned that these cars are not as cheap as I thought to maintain as many of you have stated, things have a way of adding up. I think the most expensive part of ownership for me is insurance, being 23 and not having a perfect record is really costing me, I really don't have any options as far as insurance until I am 25. I have a great agent who has really helped me out in getting my premiums down while keeping my coverage up. The other thing that really adds up is the "while I am in there" attitude, I just cannot seem to leave well enough alone.
For New Years we went to the mountains and I had a blast driving on some mountain roads for a change and giving the 911 a good workout. Hopefully, I can get into a drivers ed this coming spring and go push my limits in a safe environment. Right now I need to pull my passenger blower motor and see if I can quiet it down some but other than that the car is running flawlessly. You guys have no idea how greatful I am for this forum and community, I have had many questions and have always found 10+ answers with the search function. Thank you again,

right on! you are definately a better typist than me. you are going to have to mis-spell a few words soon, or you are going to give me a complex. that is a great car, when i was 22, i was probably zip tying something back together on my 71 Z28. i actually wish i still had that car. i wish i had a bunch of cars. so what are you doing now after college?

We have a pretty active group of Pelicans in the Atlanta area...also a pretty active PCA. There is a DE at Road Atlanta this weekend. If you feel like a drive, it's probably 2 hours from Spartanburg. You'll meet lots of great people if you make the trip. Road Atlanta is a fantastic track.

We recently bought a house on Lake Hartwell...probably closer to you than to me! I hope to have a Porsche gathering there over the summer. Lots of parking, a great lake, plenty of beer and fishing gear (the two are not mutually exclusive), along with plenty of room to crash (poor choice of words). The roads up there are great too. Stay close to the board...I'll post something when the plans come together.

unfixed, I am actually a flooring specialist with Home Depot so if anyone has any flooring problems or questions just email me. Granted this is not my dream job, but it works for now and I am getting great experience. My hours are crazy which has kept me out of PCA meetings and events--however I am going to start requesting important Porsche days off.

Mike, lake Hartwell is about 90 min. from here. I am a regular on Lake Keowee which is what drains into Hartwell, they are both beautiful lakes. One of my other projects has been restoring my parents 1976 Mastercraft ski boat. It has been a very long project and it is a sore subject right now because the gel coat that was just redone last spring is starting to crack. I would sell it to the right buyer if they promised to keep it going, I just have too much blood, sweat, and tears in it to not keep trying with it. So keep me posted on your gathering I will definitly make it, might even bring a boat if it starts this spring or better yet maybe I can swing the payments on a new Sea Ray by then. I would love to plan a Pelican trip to the Dragon this spring if you think we could get some interest.

Daniel, please do accept a VERY late welcome from me, too - sometimes, these threads are resurrected! Reading it for the first time today, I have come to notice that it has grown from the initial "911 coming out" and "welcome" posts into a testimony of the warm brothaly love surrounding the considerable qualities of the 911, and especially the 1983-1989 Carrera model. BTW, you have such a beautiful car!
You can't see the color of my 88, but it's very much like yours (mine's more or less "lagoon green", PO had it repainted).
I got the original Carrera rear deck wing on mine, I've grown to like it: I like the fargoing simplicity of the "tailless" deck, but there are "acceptable" historic as well as aerodynamic justifications for the original "tea tray".
The picture (it's actually the only one I have available here at work!) was shot in May 2003 at the "Porsche days" at the Spa race track in Belgium.
