Neat Old Picture of a Vasek Polak 911

Funny how neat old things turn up in strange places, no? Here's a picture that my Dad took on our trip to the 1977 Atlantic City Car Show that I just recently found in one of my old albums.

The most ironic part is that now 25+ years later I have the Porsche-Sieg Dijon poster seen in the left background hanging in my basement!

I wonder whatever happened to this car ...

That was the model that killed off Porsche's support for the RSR's.

And you got the poster in the picture before you rediscovered the picture? This calls for Twilight Zone music.

Doug... thanks for posting that pic. I have pictures of that car at Laguna Seca that I took when I was a teenager. I am feeling a need to go through those pics... I'll post what I find of that car.

All those nice cars and 917/908/906 motors could be in a V/P museum,
if Vasek made better preparations before his death and placed his trust
(and financial trust) in the right people versus the ripoffs, which was always
a problem for him.

What a total waste to lose that part of Porsche history!

'76 Rose Cups...Follmer drove #16, Haywood drove #0...sister cars, brought up for the race by Vasek Polak. If you have an old August '76 Porsche Panorama about, you can read about the race. Race Winner? Portland local Monte Shelton, in an RSR...
The local Porsche crowd was quite pleased with the results. How do I know? Hey, I was there...I took the photos for Pano. Pretty sure I still have all the old B&W negatives around here somewhere...no prints left tho, and no longer have a darkroom...

Paul,
I would be happy to scan any negatives for you. I hate the idea of losing things like this.

Paul,
As a collector of VP material, I would gladly pay you for any prints you could offer.
Please e-mail me if it's possible.

Doug, the problem is that all I have is old negatives & contact sheets. When I paid a local photog to make prints of my old "silver weenie" pics, he charged a couple of hundred bucks, paid for by the car's current owner...hell, my entire B&W darkroom didn't run me much more than that back in the early 70's! Also, I'm sure you could understand my reluctance to turn loose of the negatives. Have you tried to take B&W negatives to a drugstore processing counter lately?

My 70's Porsche pics are all on color slides. Anyone know how I can get those over to digital format? I've got a lot. I was very into photography as a youth (still am), and I took a lot of pics at Laguna at the IMSA races. I remember two brothers out of Atlanta that were running yellow 935's, David Hobbs in his 320i turbo. Danny Ongias in a black Porsche number "00", etc. What good times those were! I'm sure I've got some VP stuff.

Mike,
A local printing service bureau can make a Kodak PhotoCD (ProPhotoCD?) for you. They take your slides and scan them at 5 different resolutions and burn the results to a CD-ROM. You get the disk with a thumbnail list of what is contained on the disk. Most raster and page layout programs allow you to import these files to get prints or do other things with them.
