RS seat: where to get? (attn: rdane)

On another thread...

Ruf bumper group buy

rdane posted a pic of RS seats. Who makes these? Where can they be purchased? Any feedback on fit? Does it best fit a wide or narrow *ss?

thanks

On the west coast, I got mine through Schatz Motorsports. The east coast distributor is FVD-USA, in Florida.

I believe the FVD "RS" seats are just leather-covered Recaro "Pole Position" shells. So, if you don't need them in leather, you might check around with Recaro dealers to (possibly) save a little $$. Although, the leather FVD ones do look very nice.

Eric pretty much coved it, Ricaro Pole Position available in cloth or leather.

Nice fit for us folks who are actually taller than a 911 roof line and just shy of a set of RSR flares

SRDs were too narrow for me if that helps. At 6'1" and 215 these are a perfect fit for me. Good enough for a long day in the saddle with no complaints.

I'm 5'11", 160 pounds, and have the leather-covered one. I got mine from Schatz as well. But if you don't need the leather, it's just a Recaro SPG Pole Position.

I am about with Jack, I am 5'11.5" haha closer to 6' and hit about 168 lbs.
The Seats are great for even longer drives I drove in mine for 9 hours and they felt great ! I will never part with them only get new one if needed.

FWIW my lovely wife is 5"6 and 120, she says She loves the seats. The fit of the OEM seat belts to the PP has to be seen and felt to be believed. The standard seat belts are easier to use and better fitting on the car's passengers judged against the OEM seats. My take is the Pole Position was designed specifically for an earlier stock 911 set up, normal human body sizes and was designed and executed extremely well.

We have had new, stock, leather, Porsche seats, cloth SRDs, and now the Pole Position. The Pole Position quickly became our favorite seat. Couple of things worth mentioning if you have kids or want anyone of smaller stature to do ride alongs.

The SRD has the hard, plastic harness guides placed where hard acceleration or an accident will cause head injury. Terrible design flaw by Ricaro. The other plus to the Pole Position is how it side mounts. I was able to raise the height on the passenger seat so it clears the wiper's in park. Bonus points again from my passenger.

To lower the driver's seat for a helmet I mounted the seat directly to the body with no sliders. I have short legs in comparison to my height so the driving position is perfect for me, close and upright.

Awesome seats. I had asked Jack ealier about them because I thought they looked very finished and just plain "cool" in leather. I bought them when we found out the problems on the SRDs and couldn't be happier with the purchase.

My take on the leather or cloth issue is, buy leather if you are going to keep your car. Buy cloth is you are going to sell it in the forseeable future. The cost of the leather seats was one of the best buys on my car to date and money well spent IMO.

Either this seat or a GT3 will go into any Porsche I own next. My only dissappointment to date is Mike Shatz hasn't been able to get the cork colored inserts from Germany, to match my interior, as of yet.

Good point Joel. The SPG is narrower and more money than the PP from folks like Speedware.

I would suggest sitting in either before you buy. If that isn't possible. I believe you'll find the Pole Position more comfortable than a SRD if you are looking for a bigger seat from Ricaro. The SPD Pole Position is a very tight seat in comparison to either the PP or SRD.

rdane...I am surprised you say the PP is more comfy than an SRD?....SRD is a daily sport/touring style while PP is a fixed race style?...

Dane's point about the SRD harness guide is spot on. Im 5'9 and the back of my head just clears the plastic guide. I can see where someone could really whack their head on it in a collision.

Just my take on it Joel. The PP back is not adjustable forward or back. Makes it difficult to get behind them or use the back seat. You can mount it on the original sliders so front to back is easy enough for adjustment.

I found the strap guides on the SRD dangerious for a shorter person and the leg bolsters very uncomfortable on me. They actually pinched a nerve in my leg. Number of guys using them on the track had the same problems with the SRDs. I also think the original seat belts fit the PP and body position better in my '79 Porsche than the SRD did.

Down side is the PP seat is more difficult to get in and out of than a SRD but about the same IMO as a factory Porsche sport seat but that is being really picky.

PP for an every day driver would be tiring. But If you spent over 30 minutes one way on a commute or your 911 is a "weekend" car like mine, I'd take the PP. I lost the use of the back seat but gained a great deal in driver comfort and control. That realization came as a surprise to me also.

Of all the mods I have made to my car... these seats have been the single best overall improvement.

I hear ya....and I understand. Having just bought my 70 T and already putting in a Prototipo I really see the need for a seat as the stock one is useless in spirited/track driving....will be getting a Sparco EVO like new for cheap but the SRD and PP remain a possibility for my Z3 coupe or pass. in T....
