Question Winterization questions...

Putting the girl to sleep for the winter. Two questions: What fuel additives do you recommend adding to the full fuel tank and should the car be stored with the parking brake on or with the brake off and the car in gear? Thanks in advance for your help.

I use Stabil, can get it a Walmart. I recommend keeping the parking brake off as the parking brake shoes can rust to the drums. Really doesn't matter if you keep it in gear or not. I would keep it in gear just to keep it from rolling.

I also use Stabil...have so for years in anything I own with an engine.

I'd recommend adding Stabil to the fuel and then filling/topping off. Run the car to get the treated fuel completely through the system...I usually run for 5-10 minutes.

For a typical short storage period of a couple of months the Stabil which I use on my small engines isn't necessary w/ the large fuel tanks on a 911. Just fill the tank, change the oil(this is the important part) and keep the mice away. Longer storage will require more effort.

And if your state changes over to the ethonol based gas you may want to fill it before that date.

I too use Stabil, have for a few years for winter storage on my "65 Bug, '69 Ghia, "78 Westy and of course, my '79 SC. I think one of the most important points is to "drive" the vehicle for at least 1/2 hour to have the gas mixture advance through the carb(s)/FI system. Change the oil just before tucking her into bed.
