John Walker and/others, CIS compatability ?

I have a gentleman who is purchasing the complete CIS system from my '77 930 and his mechinc questions whether it would be compatable with his '86 930. I think I remember correctly when I say that the '77 CIS system had the "better" fuel distributor and would support more HP, is this correct? Is there any reason this swap would not work? Thanks again!

I have heard that the replacement for an american 3.3 is the euro fuel distributor for the3.3. that number is 0438100037. The number is located on the side of the disritbutor,not the box that it is bolted to. Maybe that number is the same for the early turbos. Hope this helps

superman, once made a obvious suggestion to me. just go to a parts website, like pelican's, and just start cross referencing the part #'s. i used this method and found out that only a few parts from the 77 cis will work for my ride.

I think you may be missing the question here. We are not trying to swap fuel distributors, we are trying to swap the entire CIS system from the airbox to the intake manifold.

The entire sys should fit AFAIK. The intake is the main difference in the two systems. And the 86 runs an intercooler

CIS from a pre-78 930 will fit a post-77 930.
HOWEVER, the pre-78 system is engineered with no intercooler. While many of the components are interchangeable the system as a unit is not equal. The addition of an intercooler kit to the older 930 CIS puts it at the same performance level as the post-77 units. I would have to check the 911 Turbo service manual to verify fuel system compatability. Probably no issues that a regulator wouldn't cure.
