Stuff like this just irritates me to no end......

Part number 24A on the diagram has to be in the top 5 of the most retarded parts on my car. It's a rubber cylinder that mounts to the engine lid hinge, and provides an isolated mount for the A/C line clamp. The studs are moulded into the rubber on each end, which is brilliant.........

The stud on mine had ripped out of the rubber, so I ordered a replacement. This part had evidently failed within a week of the car's delivery back in '85, because I noticed that the A/C hose has worn almost completely through from rubbing on the lip of the engine bay when the lid is opened and closed. This mount secures the A/C line, and is supposed to keep it from doing just that.

I installed the new part, and was concerned that there was a tremendous amount of tension on it, due to the routing of the A/C line. Well, one day later, and the stud has already sheared from the rubber, leaving the A/C line unsecured, and rubbing against the sharp edge of the engine bay again.

Why would you design a part in this fashion, when it's under so much stress from the whacky routing of the A/C line? After replacing it, I knew it wouldn't last a week. Looks like a custom part is needed......

Yeah, yeah, I know, Porsche's ain't supposed to have A/C in the first place, but I'm still running my A/C here in FL...........

When mine broke I dug through my garage cabinets and used a long bolt with a piece of black rubber hose as a spacer. It works the same, looks the same, will never break again, and best of all - cost nothing.

I had a similar part on the exhaust system of my old Jensen Healey. It broke. My fix was the same as Lee's....a long bolt left a bit loose.

I recently replaced the AC lines in my 87 and although all the little holders were still intact (including part 24A - which I agree is a very poor design) the old lines were very badly worn at the deck lid edges. When I replaced the lines I went out and bought a few of those wrap around plastic hose protector sleeves at NAPA Auto for a few bucks each. This is a much better way to protect the lines from the sharp sheet metal edges.

Is this the same part that is also used between the air pump mounting arm to the fan shroud mounting bracket? Sure does look the same.

Buy a K&N filter, that way you can flush $57 down the commode, get nothing in return except more dirt in the motor. Now THAT's a deal!!

those type of mounts are called "lord" mounts. Available from McMaster-Carr http://www.mcmaster.com/

Check page 1210.

Another tip to not use locking type nuts on them as they wont live long if twisted upon installation...

Mine was rubbing along the deck lid opening too, I just slightly bent the pipe downward a little and VIOLA!!

Does anyone know which of the McMaster mounts is equivalent to the Porsche mount?
