CIS Airbox Question
I recently purchased a 1983SC with a 3.0 engine. I noticed that one of the airbox straps was broken. Unfortunately, it was not only the strap, but the plastic ear holding one of the ends has been broken off. I plan on replacing it by installing a metal clip like the one that holds the other end of the strap using a self-tapping screw into the plastic housing. I also plan on installing a pop off valve as well. Any suggestions for the broken plastic ear other than my plan?

I hate it when you ask a question and no response. The pop off valve is the single most important thing you can do to your SC. I can still remember the day when mine exploded. A costly event. I don't see any problem with your plan to replace the clilp and strap. Good luck.

Just be careful with the self tapping screw. Make sure you don't screw into the airbox and create a vacuum leak. The CIS system gets very unhappy when there is even the smallest of vacuum leaks. Ask me how I know!

David,
One of my plastic tabs on the airbox snapped off, but I found it on top of the engine and I used epoxy to glue it back in place and it's been working fine ever since. I think your plan will work, just use some epoxy after you drill the holes to be sure they are filled in to prevent a vacuum leak as the other gentleman noted. Vacuum leaks are tough to find on CIS but one you find them, are very easy to fix.

Tim,
That sure is a purty airbox!!! Do you mind if I ask how much it cost? I went to JBRacing's website, but didn't see the airbox. That thing is beautiful!!!

azasadny, Email Mike at Brunsmspts@aol.com He may be out of town until 12/11 though, I paid 150.00 + shipping + whatever it cost to weld the power brake connection on. I have yet to see it. It was shipped on fri. So you may want to wait.

Tim,
Thanks for the info. Mine is a '74 and doesn't have power brakes. My airbox has a broken "tab" but I fixed it with epoxy. When it finally fails, I'll have to get one of these airboxes. That would sure look nice in my engine compartment!
