Probably turbocharged, my money says it's probably a newer 996tt with little boltons.
BTW, some buddies of mine (when i lived in new jersey) used to tell me that outrunning cops in the boondocks area wasn't that uncommon in jersey.

Maybe he was 5 miles from the exit.

Like someone already said, stock 996tt= 190+mph. That's before any bolt-ons/weld-ons/inject-ons/etc...

Stock 996 Carreras do 175+, so if their radar gun was off a little at that speed, (a certainty), it could have been someone's Mom in her new cabriolet tiptronic.

You guys are way behind the times with your knowledge of new car performance. And as for helicopter speed, it depends on the bird. Like cars, they don't all have the same top speed. The UCLA Medstar medivac one does ~180mph, at least according to the T-shirt I have.

Not many true exits but plenty of places to hide in the Alley. Tourist traps, trails ect ect....Maybe it was only for a short bit then he pulled off...

I'm aware of that, but in a turbo with it's torque it's very easy to reach that speed quite quickly. Hence my assuption of it being a slightly modded tt. Of course it could be a gt2, but what are the chances of that. It could also be juan's monster dragger out for testing, but what are the chances of that. Not saying it's the only possibility, just stating the more possible occurence. Heck, it might have even been a VW bug with a turbo slapped on it, and the cops thought it was a porsche because of the way it was moving, you never know

David, road blocks are used every day on Alligator alley to stop drug runners coming from Miami. I have seen a few setup. But hey I'll buy the lie. Maybe it was that twin turbo GT3 I heard that was specially imported from Germany just for secret stealth missions by the CIA. Can you say 007.

speeder 12-02-2003 09:18 AM

I like my chases a little more liesurely, (safer and easier to watch):

I did'nt want to admit it, but it was me...test driving a new car...

That is one Hell of a Briggs you got there!

I thought I had heard that 930s have the gearing to go well past 170. They just need the power...which most of us now have. Can anyone confirm? I know I've 'pegged' the speedo on my 930 (past the last tick mark) in an irresponsible few moments.

tkrefeld 12-02-2003 12:26 PM

The engine should be turned around. The dipstick in the back and the air flow should be closer to the rear of the car. I am curious as to the angle of placement. It would be easier to start via a screwdriver this way. A horizontal shaft Vanguard would be a better choice. How did it drive?

Adam 12-02-2003 01:42 PM

Juan... Be careful out there!

rick conrath 12-02-2003 01:59 PM

if you can pull redline in fourth gear on a 930, its in excess of 190mph.

hallo
A 993 TT Stage 2 (450 HP )from the Factory does 315 Km/H that is 197MP/H , and the Car is very driveable around Town just like a normal
993 . My old 930 did 185 Mp/H ,with a bigger Turbo and Intercooler/
Boostwheel etc,but was almost impossible to drive in the City and the Fuel - Mileage was crazy , about 35-40 Liters on 100 KM (5 miles a Gallon . My Speedster does 185 too ( 993 technics ,1100 KG wet)

A stock turbo with the 4 spd tranny is actually geared such that if it could hit redline in 4th it would be going over 200mph, but stock they can't push the car that fast. If you were to bump the power up from the 260hp of something like a '79 to the 400-450 that is relatively easily done you could probably get a lot closer to 200 since with the 260 they top out a tad over 150mph.

I agree with the above statement.

Stock, 282 horses (1986-1988) you will see about 155-160 mph. With a Cd. of .39, I'd imagine you'd need about 330 horses to see 170 mph....

beepbeep 12-02-2003 03:42 PM

Well i had my slightly warmed over 3.3 930 to 177MPH indicated so i really don't see reason why new 911 Turbos couldn't accellerate to 180+ MPH...

I was at the Porsche dealership the other day talking with a BEAUTIFUL blonde Porsche sales woman.

That's all I have to say :) jk

Anyways, she was telling me that she has a customer with a very distinct color 996 turbo and a very distinct custom license plate that gets letters from the OPP (read state troopers for the americans) asking him to slow down because they can't catch him!

I guess people call in to the station when they see him fly by on the highway and report him but unless the trooper actually pulls you over (which is VERY hard to do on a highway with exits every 5 miles) they can't ticket him.

Imagine the poor officer sipping his coffee and munchin on the doughnut at the side of the road when the radar blips 170 mph and he feels a rush of air as the guy drives by :)

Couldn't the cops get a photo of his license number plate using a speed camera and send him a fine? :)
