Talking I'm 911 Shopping

Well, kind of. I now have $6600 burning a hole in my pocket, after finally selling my truck. Don't say it, I know it's not much, and don't tell me I need to have money in reserve, because it's already there. Ok, with that taken care of, after property tax (Dec 20), and Christmas, I'm going to start progressively saving money towards a 911, but as of now I'm at least looking. I'd like a 76 or later coupe or targa, if it's a 2.7 I want one that's been rebuilt. Mechanically solid is of utmost importance, as this will be a daily driver, but I don't want a totally trashed car either, and no rust. The closer to central Kansas the better. If anybody has any leads drop me a line at jessup3@cox.net. Thanks, Matt Jessup

I bought a 1976 a few months back or $6500.00. The car is a perfect ten (at 10 feet or at least 10 miles per hour). Before buying I had a compresion and leakdown test done with good numbers. Whiel not perfect the car is a lot of fun to drive and if you don't look to hard, nice to look at.

Good luck.

You are talking about the engine only right? A totally rebuilt engine will cost you $7,000 alone.

Yeah, but put it back in the car (mid year) and the total package is worth $6000. Ask me how I know.

I meant a '75, '76, '77 911..

I have more than $7k in my engine in 1999 dollars.. not including the intake or exhaust, that's another $5k in 2003 $..
oh yeah, the EGT & CHT monitoring is over $2k. My 911 Has to be reliable for at least 10k mile rides, LOL
but I think it's in the $10k price range if I had to sell it.

But I don't have to sell, sorry Matt .... Ron

Judging from just looking through classifieds, ebay, etc, Zeke is right. Seems like a pretty nice 76-77 with a recent rebuild and records is in the 8K ballpark, of course you never really know until you go look at the car. I'm looking at 76 on because I want the galvanizing, even Ron's 77, which sounds like a nice car, is in the 10K range. The stigma of the 2.7 is great if you're a buyer, bad if you're a seller. What's the 2.7 drive like Ron, or any other 2.7 owners, all I've driven so far is a 74 with a 3.0.

Are you asking what it's like in terms of power, or in terms of the overall experience? When I drive my 2.7 on the street it feels fine...even "quick". When I drive it on the track, it feels woefully underpowered relative to the other cars on the track (I have plenty of video showing the power deficit on the straights). So if it's a street car, you'll probably like it as long as you aren't looking for a stop light demon. It would probably also be fine on the track until you get a bit of experience and move up in the run groups. At that point, you'll be running against more experienced drivers, most of which will have much more capable cars. To each his own, but I've been longing for more power on the track for some time.

What input are you looking for?

My SC was 7000. Far from a beater but you have to expect to put some money & time into a car in that range.

You can find and SC for 8. If you can, go for that. 81-83 are best.

Schuey, thanks for the ads, they're actually for the same car, a man named Todd at ELC Auto near Austin Texas. I've talked with him about this car and a 77S that's currently for sale on Ebay, but both are more than I currently have. Also, I'd like a 76 or newer for the galvanizing.
A little of both MuffinMan, I'd like performance feedback as well as the overall driving experience. Right now I'd like to join PCA and do some DE for starters, but I know that often spirals out of control, and I may want to race every weekend.
As a side note, I'm originally from Manhattan, KS, my wife is KSU alumni, so HOW ABOUT THEM CATS!!!!!

The recent fall of SC prices has squashed '74-77 2.7 prices.

And right now, '72-73 911s are right up there with late SCs in pricing. It's a crazy marketplace.

Hey Techweenie, what are the details on the white 77 coupe, is it in decent shape beyond missing the engine/ tranny?

Needs paint, but otherwise fairly complete and straight.

A car that's not 'done' will almost always be a more expensive way to go, though.

so basically, you are looking for a car ready to go ?????
If you are willing to put a little time and effort and for that price range, maybe a little fixer upper is not a bad idea, you know !!!!!
Good luck, Phil.
