Boston Area Engine Drop, Need help!

Hello All, I am planning on doing the deed this coming Sat.( Dec. 13th). if anyone is interested/available it would be much appreciated. I will supply:

1. A WARM garage.
2. Favourite beverages of choice.
3. Lunch at cool local bar.
4. Dinner for those hardcore helpers( I used to be a cook in a past life and make a mean Steak au Poivre).
5. Some nice California wines to toast our west coast friends!

If anyone is interested, please respond, the more the merrier!

Cheers, James

Hey James,

I am in the Bay Area for the week but if I can take a Friday redeye, I'd be happy to join in the fun. I can bring the turbo calipers over too.

If I can't, remember to remove the throttle rods so they don't hang up on the left axle and tear the CV joint apart such that bearings are rolling everywhere.

This of course has never happened to me, , but I have heard about this sort of thing before.

I used to be a cook too, I'll bring some lobster bisque.

Shaun

Shaun and Tom, Thanks for the responses! Looks like we might have a great meal too! I will have both half shafts out since I'm replacing the rear wheel bearings too.

Shaun, if you bring the calipers I can get them back to you by the 17th.

Cheers, James

I think I am available. I don't think the 1 month old will let me be "hardcore", but I would love to stop in and help/ learn as much as possible.
What time?

I am right here in Danvers and might be available. I am in the process of trying to put my 930's motor back together by this weekend ( just waiting on my cams to get back). If things go as planed I will be free to help if your interested.

I'd come help, but I'm up in Maine this weekend helping reassemble the rally car. Sucks, too. Engine drop is on my list of winter tasks, and I'd love to see whats involved.

James and Dotorg;
I just helped a friend with dropping the engine out of his 2.2 a month ago and the two of us did it in an evening. It wasn't a big deal. Now getting the replacement 2.7 engine together and in, well that's another thing...

I don't know if I can get over there Saturday since I just returned from a week overseas and need to spend some time with the family. But I may take one or both of the girls for ride over to provide some moral support for an hour or two. Where is this going on? Drop me an PM.

- John

If by chance you do not do this weekend, I may be able to help. I took mine out twice last year, it's a bit nerve racking having the tailend of the car up so high but other than that it is pretty straightforward.

I have a test on Sunday that I cancelled a couple Christmas parties to study for. It probably wouldn't go over well if it was known that I skipped some close friends parties to help a chat room Porsche brother pull his motor.

Anyways, if it is postponed let me know.

Good luck either way. It is nice having out and accessible.

I'll be there at 10:00, but won't be there for dinner. Can you send some directions? PM me. I'll bring a digital camera to document the festivities.
See you then!

James,

Very sorry to say that I will be flying all day tomorrow, so I won't make it.

Wish I could be there.

I'll call/email on Sun to discuss the calipers.

Shaun
