hmm.. we'd have to adapt the injectors so that they would fit in the existing injector holes OR have them drilled out to have them fit.

Shoot, this could be good for anyone looking for programmable EFI.

Yep, plus good for us that want more H.P. but can't afford the 3.6 upgrade. I want to add a turbo at some time in the future, and the flexibility of this EFI controller makes it simple.

The combined cost of EFI + turbo will be about 1/3 the cost of a 3.6. I'm guessing about $5k vs. $15k for the 3.6. I've heard of 3.6 costs all over the map, from 8k to 20k, but the average is about 15k. I don't want this thread to go OT, so if the 3.6 guys disagree we can start a new thread.

I read somewhere on TWM's website (the throttle body people), that they felt some more power could be had by placing the injectors above the throttle plate. They were just a little nervous about the liability involved with high pressure fuel on the atmoshpere side of the throttle plates.

why not find a way to mount the injectors in your MFI stacks?

It seems like Tony has found a way around the TPS so all you need at that point is to tap vacuum from the manifolds for the MAP sensor, and plug the old injector holes in the heads

oh yeah...you also need to mount an air temp sensor in your air cleaner housing.

tony's cyl head temp sensor will work a whole lot better than an oil temp sensor for warm up enrichment

Come on guys, more pros and cons. We've already got stacks and I don't think it would be that hard to install injectors in to them. What else I'm I not thinking of? Randy

well the vacum takeoff isn't a biggie since we've already got a vacumn advanced dizzy.

The problem with the injectors up above the throttle plates is if you have fire of some sort in the stacks all you have to do is shut the throttle plates but that's ONLY if your gas is below the plates. If not then it'll either burn themselves out or start a very pretty fire. That's why they moved the cold start from above the stacks to inside them. Now with EFI not firing all the time it might be possible
It might be possible to mount a fuel rail above the stack I dunno.

Just some musings.

I have been following this thread since day-1. Everytime I get a notification about a new post, I have been hoping that someone has installed the kit, provided comparison of stock vs. the kit as far as:

0-60 times.
horsepower gain.
reliability.
plus and minuses,
etc.

What is also important is the ability to restore the engine back to stock as I am in California (smog reasons!!!!)
Come on guys. Kill my suspense.

I got my pre-production kit today and tony emailed a partial draft of the install instructions. I removed my carbs and started on the conversion with my original cis out of the car. I'm not going to hack up my airbox like tony did (just yet). [img]

one more

I'll post more info as i progress. So far the install is no biggie. The o2 sensor just involved the removal of my muffler and a quick weld at work. the auxillary air regulator needed its holes elongated to clear the fuel rail and a couple of holes drilled in the tunnel for the wiring and vacuum line.

Is that a zip tie on the O2 sensor? Please promise to take that off before you run the car!

Looks like Will hasn't reach the stage to plug in the O2 sensor yet and the O2 comes packaged like that in the kit, but good point just in case

Cab83:

I think you'll have to be patient. I am in the same boat. I am even hoping that it will pass smog in CA. It should run at least as clean as the CIS if you retain the catalytic converter. Why don't you try it?

progress update:

cis back on, fuel rails, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel hoses on. (Note: teflon tape not needed; my bad.) I removed the fuel distributor, cis fuel lines, air sensor plate, warm up regulator, and decel valve. I ran the megasquirt harness and vacuum line to the engine. I still have to install the air and engine temp sensors, and wire it all up.

This is pretty much what it will look like when done

The missing fuel distributor is what catches my eye right away.
I don't know if this conversion could be done with it still attached. The pressure regulator mounts right behind it. I made a plate to cover where the fuel distributor was. This install would be quicker if my cis was on the car to begin with. This was my first time installing that beast and I found myself wanting to cut it up like Tonys install.

I'll email tony to see if I can get the rest of the install info.

I'm working on the wiring as I write this post. This is getting exciting.....

I noticed that the harness is not comming up behind the left rear shock tower as I show in the installation guide. I will add this picture to the document to clear things up.
