Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but patwilliamsracing.com has already beaten you to the development of a turnkey EFI update for the 930 CIS switch and is also doing the normally aspirated systems.

You may be able to compete if your rpicing is lower than his kit.

Great ideas though and clearly there exists a market for this according to the Excellence article by Jim Pasha Feb 2005 pages 163-168

I have been waiting for Ultra Megasquirt to be ready, so I can upgrade to EFI and use my WBO2 sensor and EDIS crank trigger all at once. I am planning to use Tony's kit, but my car is running great on CIS still and I don't want too many intermediate steps. If/when I make this switch, part of me will miss the quirkiness and elegance of CIS, though!

Absolutely...but this will be a necessary step to allow the engine to live even 5 minutes if I ever get the courage to mount the 2 T-25 turbos I have in the garage to the engine...the stock package works too nicely to mess with until something eventually goes wrong, though.

I just took my CIS to EFI 911 out of hybernation this weekend. Started on the first shot after a winter of being shut down. Ran like a charm.

Just though I'd let folks know that alot of software development has been done by folks on the MegaSquirt I which allows it to have almost all the features of the much awaited MegaSquirt II.

Here is a list of features available with MegaSquirt I with the "MegaSquirtnSpark-Extra" software load:

12x12 fuel tables
12x12 spark tables
DualTable code
Roger Enns' injector staging code
Rev limiter
Launch control
Overboost protection
Mappable Air:Fuel Ratio target for use with wideband O2
Coolant temp timing advance
Inlet temp timing retard
MAPdot accel/decel enrichment
Anti-rev / Traction Control feature
Over-run fuel cut

Details can be found here:
http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/index.html

I have not tried this sofware out yet, but do intent on doing so. The main features I'm intersted in are 12x12 VE table and ignition control. I plan on using a 7-pin HEI module in series with the BOSCH CDI to advance/retard timing.

I'll post details once I have a working setup.

Cheers,

Tony,

Just read through this thread tonite, then downloaded and read your instruction manual, which also looks quite good (maybe one more time through the proofreader's).

One thing that did concern me was the ECU case not being sealed however. I'll be straight with you and say that my CIS is working fine at present, and I am not looking to spend the money to upgrade to EFI right now. However, if I were, the non-sealed case would be a big issue with me.

My car is a targa, and completely eliminating all the leaks in it such that it's bone dry inside is near impossible. The CA winter rains will have their way with older targas...

Would it not be possible to find some source for a sealed box for the ECU? At the very least, I should think this would extend its life and reliability since some moisture (even from condensation) is bound to get in there if it's not sealed during the winter months.

Just a thought. Rest of the kit looks very well thought out and I wish you the best of luck. If my fuel distributor packs up tomorrow, you may be hearing from me!

Andy, I know the problem with a single throttle body, but that problem must be greatly reduced with the EFI. You should be able to run cams with more overlap, if not as much as early S.

Hey Tony, I'm very interested in how your upgrade goes. I would like to try it myself. I currently have your setup and love it, adding spark would complete the package.

ianc,

I'll proof read the installation guide. It's been a while since I read it. If there are any specific sections please let me know.

The MegaSquirt has been used with the current package in thousands of vehicles. There haven't been any problems that I am aware of. I have a Targa and sometimes I get caught in the rain, with windows fogging up quickly. Haven't had a problem yet and I've been using the setup for a couple of years now.

If peoples floor boards have holes and water is pooring into the cabin, then this problem needs to be addressed before hand.

Adding hermetically sealed packaging to the MegaSquirt will drive the cost up and I don't think it is required.

Cheers,

mdanna,

nice engine bay! Good to see the kit is working with A/C in place.

Once I have a working solution for ignition, I'll provide the info to all the folks.

Cheers,

do you have SC CIS (not 930 parts)?

If so, tbitz kit is perfect for you. his default programming may not handle forced induction, but the megasquirt system does just fine, given the proper configuration.

mdanna,

So your car is a ROW SC therefore a 204hp non-cat model? Did you map the system yourself or just used a supplied one? Have you had any dyno tests done to see the effects on these engines. Most of the upgrades so far seem to be on US spec cars. If I'm to keep my car for a period of time then this is one route I may go down.

yep, if he was able to make a base map off the turbocharging system he *was\is\did* try then i would snatch it up in hearbeat!

I provide a base MAP for the NA cars. Since I don't have access to a turbo 911 I can't create a MAP for it.

My base map should be fine to get you started and driving. Even though I don't have a row in the VE table for positive manifold pressure, the computer automatically extrapolates the VE table into the positive pressure zones and supplies fuel accordingly.

It wouldn't be that hard to setup a VE table for a BAE converted engine.

There is already one person converting his turbocharged 911 with my kit. I'm sure he'd be happy to share his VE MAP with others once he is done.

Cheers,
