I don't think that's an engine serial number.
That is the casting number on the engine case. Stamped in big lettering on the bottom of the engine, right?

from the looks of it It's a 3.6L engine but that looks like a casting number to me too.

Ooops - it is the casting number for a 3.6. Where is the engine number located?

The serial number is on the right side of the fan housing toward the bottom of the housing on a raised "boss" that sticks out of the case.

Got it! Thanks. Incidently Todd, I know you are working on a 993 conversion and I was wondering - on a non vram 993 motor, behind the throttle body on the plastic intake end there is a plastic nipple that sticks out - it looks like a vacuum hose is supposed to attach there - do you know where that is supposed to go?

I know this graphic is a Vram backside (Courtesy of Bill Verburg)
But is this what you are talking about? If so it is the TB breather that goes to the top oil tank port. If not, post a pic. ![]() |

It may be the same but it looks different on the non vram. I'll post a pic tonight. If it does go to the oil tank, do you connect it on a conversion for a 3.6 swap to an SC car?
