I'm pretty sure it's just a weird slope or bump/dip in the pavement, showing the crazy axle articulation on this thing. Paris-dakar style.

That red one sure is shiny. And purdy. I'd drive one of these things as fast as I could. I've had the little Pcar up to a buck 35, at which point she started feeling light. I'm willing to bet the ride's better in the 59. mmmm.....loss leader...

You know what would be funny? If someone entered one of these in Paris Dakar now, and painted something obscene about Porsche's company racing policy on it. Maybe that's just me.

Well, that might put the car in the vicinity of the body shop that makes body kits. What's going on here?

Its a real 959.

It has the correct interior and exterior. The only way it could possibly be a fake is if someone got a late 80s, early 90s 911, had custom kits made, bought 959 rims and mirrors, and even went as far to cut up the body for a most likly false oil and transmision fill on either side of the car.

Picture of 959.

Ahh, this is not an "is this car a fake?" thread. As I've already said, it's a 959. I did not have to see the VIN to know the model. It is not a '72 911T w/ a body kit.

I worked the Porsche exhibit @ the 1986 L.A. Auto Show, with one and 1/2 959s, (one was cut in half), sat in it when it was new, have an original sales brochure somewhere in German, etc... No big mystery what they put in/on those cars.

And the pictures were taken at the detail/hand wash place across the street from the original Gold's Gym, not at Otto's shop, which is ~1 block away. And I guarantee that it is not Schwartzenegger's, he doesn't have a lot of time to hang out at Gold's Gym these days. (Nor has he for 20+ years).

Denis is right, you KNOW a fake when you see one, because none of them were really that good. Most were out of proportion or had small things that were just plain off. If you see a real one in person it's even easier to tell the difference when you see a fake. Another thing about the 959 that people don't realize is how much actual bodywork is on the car compared to a 911. It isn't a sleek look like the narrow-body 911s, but more voluptuous with some really wierd looking curves from certain angles.

I remember that 1/2 of a 959 in 1986 like it was yesterday. I wonder what Porsche ever did with that.

Man, do I love the 959.

Another dead give away is the (apparently malfunctioning) adjustable ride height. I've never seen a kit car w/ that feature.

The reason that I say malfunctioning is because I am pretty sure that the F/R are supposed to rise and fall together.

But anyways, it's a water-pumper and way too easy and safe to drive fast, so it's a POS to most people here, right?

Who knows what all was done when they legalized it. The flaks who
were written up in "Excellence" ripped the Bosch F/I off and put
some other "thing" on, real mickey mouse. The Bosch F/I had all
the electronics for passing emissions. All that was needed was a
code change in the DME EPROM.
