Who knows the dimensions of exhaust nuts and muffler bolts/nuts?

I need new nuts for my exhaust studs and new bolts/nuts for my SSI's to muffler. Do you know the sizes? I was originally going to use stainless but I don't want to risk galling or the transformation SS goes through with heat. It think it loses some of it's stainless properties with heat. So I am going to go to Homo Depot to pick up new steel hardware and I will use copper anti-seize should I need to go back in there some day. I don't have the muffler bolts/nuts available to compare with and my exhaust stud nuts barely resemble a nut so if you have the dimnesions I would appreciate it greatly.

M8 exhaust nuts, and M8 exhaust Bolts. The bolts are about 2 inches long.

I'm doing Wil Ferch's recommendation pretty soon.

Exhaust Gaskets

SAE he says???? Blasphemy!!!! The Porsche uses metric........... I'm doing it anyway.

If you wanna use the factory stuff,

Bolts are M8 x 40 length, partiallly threaded 8.8 property class. Most factory stuff is cad plated but it's destroyed soon after the bolt is put in use.

Nuts are M8 x 1.25 class 8

It'll rust into oblivion like the original stuff though......

For the nuts on the exhaust port head studs, I use the copper coated ones. For thin flange I use the reduced size ones (12mm wrench) and for the thick flange heat exchangers as used on Carrera's I use the normal nuts (13mm wrench).

I am figuring that with the low mileage it sees and the anti-sieze it'll come off in 23 yrs much easier than my 23 yr old hardware came off this time.

Any thoughts on the exhaust stud nut sizes? Those are the ones where I have to make a specific thread on the stud. Not many options there.

The anti seize will keep the nut from galling, but the bolt shank deteriorates over time. You'll see when you bust apart the old stuff. No big deal though. New metric stuff for the joints will do fine.

These nuts are good:

Paragon Products Copper Nuts

Kinda soft though.

I think Pelican might sell some M8 x 1.25 exhaust stud nuts in copper? Check the catalog. I'm not sure.

edit..........fixed dead Paragon Products link

My quoted method works well with metric tools, as stated. ....
Thanks Kevin / KTL,

Cool

I'm so cheap!

These things rust to oblivion so soon.

I use what ever american size that works well. I do use some antiseize on the threads. I have been known however to use brass nuts however if I think I would be pulling the muffler sometime soon.

The gaskets very oftern are "2hole" Ford inline6 cylinder exhaust flange gaskets. Maybe 223 cu in. Cheap too.

Good luck,
David Duffield
