Porsche Crest Halon alternative....

I need to buy a new fire extinguisher. After a few searches through this BBS I see a preference for Halon.

But in the Netherlands, since january 2004, it's forbidden to use Halon.

What's the alternative?

Thanks,

Kees.

For fuel and oil fires you will certainly not want either a halon or CO2 gas estinguisher.

An ABC rated powder or foam estinguisher is where it is at. They may leave a mess behind but at least you will avoid having your car turn into a charred mess.

AFFF. Aqueous Film Forming Foam. Environmentally safe, displaces liquids, tastes great over Muselix.

I have the Firecharger (foam type) system on my race car. I hope I never can say "It works great" or worse, "The thing didn't work".

All kidding aside, the Firecharger would fit your needs if you have a full race car. It might look funny in a street car. That's not to say you could not put it in a street car.

We've become dealers for the AFFF Firecharger systems. cost is $449 for the 10 pound system and $349 for the 5 lb system. Either comes complete with bottle, mounting bracket, tubing, nozzles, and cable

What size Firecharger do you need for the engine compartment alone?

On my Halon system, TRE put the tank in the front trunk, with the pull concealed behind the ash tray. Flip it down, and then handle's right there. Flip it back up, and it looks totally stock.

This picture shows the alternate ash tray I snap on for the track. It has the face removed, with the tray adapted to hold the Hot Lap display.

Why not opt for such a setup:

The five pound system is more than adequate for engine and interior, or engine- fuel cell, or just one zone. For the engine we include a second nozzle and T fitting so you can put one nozzle on each bank of the 6 cylinder motor
