swap it for running 3.0 and sell your core. Look for a motor that has already been upgraded and documented. Rebuilding a 2.7 into anything bigger is going to be tough for under $3k. Good luck!

Steal a SC..............
![]() Or get one for a steal. Agreed that building the 2.7 is not the way to go. Find a good deal on a 3.0L and do a swap. Hopefully your core will be a solid one and help you recover some of the cost. A refreshed 3.0 is going to be hard to get a good deal on. The ones that are a little tired are those that can obviously be had cheaper.

Jim,
Andial 2.9 conversion set is around $5 less than $3K ... EBS might be able to supply some reconditioned 3.0 cylinders and JE 9.5:1 pistons for a little less ... Those are about the only real option, unless you expect a windfall estate auction, or something of the like!

sorry about that, I thought your 2.7 was a used up core.
For $3k, maybe custom J&Es and cams. What induction are you using? Last edited by Shuie; 01-29-2004 at 08:25 AM.. |

Doesn't JE make their own 2.9 pistons and cylinders now for something like $1900? That's what I was told anyway.

birel23:
The Motor-M says $3k for the kit and the case needs to be open. Any idea what other mods they need to do? Open up the spigots? etc... have you heard / seen performance on this kit? I ask b/c I have a "spare" '74 CIS 2.7 that I might upgrade. Thanks. Jason |

the kits i have seen have studs cylinders/pistons rings ect and all say machining case. i just want the cylinders, but i have not seen them sold seperately. i drove a car before and after the andial kit was installed. it much better torque.it felt like sc then. i am worried about the case getting to weak. i race mine. i have never had a problem with it yet. i have never even pulled a head stud & i run 1.2 bar of boost.my case has been align bored & has had oil update& dilivars upper and lower.all the kits i have seen are for non turbo applications that is why i just want cylinders & then ill have pistons made or find a set of good used ones.

Did anyone find out if Tyson's post was correct? It's too early to call JE where I am.
I have a 2.7 7R case with 9.5:1 JEs and Mahle jugs and MFI. Engine is currently apart for re-build. Do you guys think the 2.9 set from JE would work with my heads or am I going down the road of no return? I could sell my 2.7 JEs and jugs. Upgrade would be around $900. Oh. Almost forgot. I thought Bruce Anderson said that the wall thickness of the 2.9 cylinders was too thin. Are these custom cylinders??? Cheers, Tristan |
