Newbie with pic....finally

I think I finally figured out how to post pic. Didnt want to do the formal introduction without one. I have posted a couple of times, but have been lurking for the past two months just sucking up all this great info. Wayne thanks for a great book (101), a must for the first time owner. This car has been a long time dream of mine and has finally materialized at 40 yrs old. Not sure if it qualified as a birthday present or gift to myself for 22 yrs in this countries US Navy. Life is good, and its an honor to be a member of this great board.
Thanks for all the wisdom.
Rod

Just one question why does my post have a black dot on the envelope, and what happened to the Newbie moderator that was mentioned a while back?

Rod,

Congrats on the car, it's a nice one! I was also in the USN for 9 years (Hospital Corpsman, '82-'91). Welcome aboard shipmate!

That is a beautiful car--I've got an 80SC Targa myself. Welcome to the board and enjoy the drive!

Ahh, so i am the only one who sees it? I thought it was singleing me out or some sort of newbie identifier.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.
Jon. Is there a gap between your top and drivers side quarter window.? I got about 1/2", and dont think a new seal is going to get it..

Nope, anyone who posts in the thread will see the dot too. just click on a thread you haven't read yet, post a reply, then go back to the main page, and you will see the dot appear.

Rod, the window frame is adjustable. If my memory serves right you have to take the interior door handle and panel off. There are some bolts (metric allen head) you loosen to allow the frame some movement. There may also be a couple of bolts under some plugs just above the door hinge. If I am wrong maybe someone else can jump in.

That is a really pretty car. Great color.

Are your seats stock - they look different?

It would look even better lowered a little bit.

Rod, I've adjusted mine several times and it's easy as pie. Get a Bently manual for your car and it describes the procedure fairly well. FYI, you may want to update your signature with your car's year

Welcome aboard!

I can remember way back when ... we used to have flames coming up from the envelopes that had more than 15 replies.

... Oh how the flames excited me.

Thanks for all the great replys.

The seats "jyl" was asking about are beat up stock seats with cheesy covers. Nice set of 993 seats on the way.....cant wait for thier arrival.

Where do we find the Bently manuals?

Since we're talkin' '80 Targas, I too am wondering about that pesky gap. You're saying that you could actually raise the stationary, triangular window to bridge the gap?

Please let us know a teeny bit more!

Nice car. Now, we just need to adjust that pesky ride height with an engine drop...

Rod--

That's a very nice car. Your selection of a Targa speaks well of your wisdom and taste. I pass through Portsmouth on my way to Chesapeake occasionally. Maybe we can meet up sometime.

Yes, the frame around that window is adjustable. I adjusted mine by taking off the door pad, loosening the bolt under the triangular window and the two bolts under the plugs on the front of the door frame. I was able to raise the frame 1/4" without loosening any other bolts.

Thanks to all for the kind words and advice. Coupe of comments on lowering...Cant get out of the driveway as it is with out dragging in front. But I agree that it would look nice.

Roman, let me know if you were able to close the gap.

Paul, thanks for the great pics, ran right out while at work and gave it a shot. Very quick and easy, but it is already at upperlimit. I believe the fix is going to be new side seals, and adjusting window travel hieght. Side seals are shot, and I see there is a little adjustment on those also.

Dan, give a call when you get down this way. Look forward to meeting you NoVA folks. Never know when I might need an engine drop. 757-438-3890.
