dash coverlay...install tricks?
I have my new dash coverlay and the fit is pretty damn good just sitting on the dash, but I want a secure fit that covers more!
What do I do to cover the 1.5" above the guages? Is the silicone they provided good enough? Any good install tricks?

that's cool Eric, I am thinking of taking a strip of perlon and covering the area above the guages, then the coverlay will secure over the edge of the perlon...so a weekend project.

I hate those things. ...guaranteed not to melt/warp... HA! I shoulda taken some pictures.
As far as securing it goes. Well, it sort of depends on what's underneith. If your old dash is trashed and you want to replace it but are saving the money... just do what I did. ![]() BTW, my overlay also rattled something terrible against the defroster vents. Hope yours fits better. Lee

well Leland I would expect that, this is a temp fix.
I have noticed the fit is tight and I think just the silicone will hold it...but driving to work today is was silent so I may be lucky enough to avoid the rattle. The only mod I am going to do is trim about 1/8" off each corner where it meets the pillars, the it will be a perfect fit. Thanks for the info.

UPDATE: Installed
Here are a few shots of the dash coverlay installed (as instructed by the mfg) and it's pretty simple. I did trim a small edge so it would clear better, and just a small dab of silicone in a few key spots to secure it. Once in place I used 15 excellence magazines and 7 panorama magazines to hold it down while the silicone set (8-12 hrs).

I could see very warm weather doing that...but since the car is not going to see that in the next 5 years I don't I will have that problem. I also think the garage is a bonus and a window screen/shade may help prevent it if I think it may become an issue.
Carbon...hmmm, a complete Carbon dash would be sweet...there is a Carbon dash coverlay?

I know, I've been talking myself into buying one of these. Ive seen them in a few cars and it looks Sooooo GOOD...like a factory race car or something, really adds character to the interior.
Soon...i will spring for one ![]()

Could you remove the dash pad and just use the carbon fiber cover?

I have had one on my 944 for 4 years. 115F in Vegas didn't bother it. I made sure it was trimmed very well; that took a while of fit and trim.
The only place I have seen any movement is the defrost vents. They have sagged into the vents, making it look like they were even more deep than they are. I used their silicone and have had no other problems.

Shawn, I think you can just use the carbon fiber without the dash. Thats my plan... it would save some valuble weight for sure. Alot of us crazy addicted lightweight junkies will appreciate that!!
Ok...thats it, im ordering one of the carbon ones next week. I'll keep everyone informed on the quality.
