3.6 RSA modified EFI engine..
Found these pictures of a nice RSA 3.6 engine that appears to be modified with no distributor and looks to have fuel rails EFI. Any one know what set up this is? Whats the advantages?

You can sure eat off of this engine. I would guess a MOTEC alike custom engine management system from what it looks like. There is this cable coming from the dissy cap that could be that cam shaft position sensor triggering some sort of engine management system computer.
This setup alows you to program any sort of spark advance and fuel mapping without having to hack the Bosch DME and/or program chips. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a 3.8 or something and has big-@ss injectors and other goodies. Ingo

LOL,..That looks EXACTLY like the one in that was in a white RSA here in the shop.
It was a TEC-1 managed 3.8. Its now a Motec-managed 3.8 with a distributor, 3.8 RS intake valves, some head work, and the Webcam 993 Supersport cams. It made 335 HP on our Superflow engine dyno with GHL headers and muffler.

Actually, it shouldn't be too hard to do on a 3.6 as it already has crank sensors, fuel rails and twin-plugs. Just a matter of ripping out Motoronic, using appropriate signal adapter and replacing dizzys with coilpacks. Me like!

I understand the need for Motec/TWM when really happy cams are used but it seems like a very costly change in that application.

Hi Bill:
Since these things must pass smog here in Oregon, that was a major consideration. FYI, the Webcam Supersport cams and the factory RS ones are not the same. There is a 4 deg differerence in lobe center widths and they run very differently; we tried both,.... ![]() This engine has a Varioram intake now, too. In short, we wanted a strong, powerful motor that was smog-compliant and we got it, after a great deal of time spent on mapping and idle control.

Interesting the plate on the white RSA was from Florida and it had big Red's and Kinisis (SP) wheels. Sounds like a really trick set up.

I used the Webcam hyd RS cam which works great for my street car, but am investigating some alternatives for another more, but not totally, track oriented engine where i've been thinking GE80/Motronic/95 intake manifolds/B&B headers
