polished Fuchs-how to maintain?

Hello for those of you that have either had AL Reed or somebody else or have done the job yourself,what is the recomended maintenance for the polished wheels?How often?I am thinking of taking on the project of polishing and am wondering what everyone is useing to keep the wheels looking good.Thanks

I switch my rims out for the winter. I have polished 16x6/16x7 wheels for summer use and 15s with snows for the winter.

I just use Mother's Mag polish on my wheels. I tack a cotton washcloth on an orbital sander and just run it on whatever surface I can get to, using hands for inaccessible areas.

Mother's Aluminium Polish for me, red container.

Polish once every two months. I don't have clearcoat on mine and live on the water - salt water - so don't want pitting. This has worked well for me so far. Al Reed did mine.

Finished polishing a year ago my solution, haven't put them on the car yet so they still look great. Seriously I had road construction near my house all last summer and didn't want to ruin them. Anyway once the salt lifts this year they will be going on and a quik repolish every month is the plan. I also have two sets and will change back and forth as conditions dictate.

I picked up some stuff called WEVOL at Dunkel's....the polished wheels here on the seacoast take a beating from the salt air.....red and blue tubes.....the red gets the spots out and the blue gave it a mirror shine.

Better than the Mother's I was stealing from Ingo.....

Wash the rims often, touch up re-polish whenever they get dull enough to bug you. For my car - garaged, mild climate - that means every 6 months or so.

Edit: I use Wenol too.

Do you mean "Wenol". Wevol sound like some kind of weavel poison Wenol is very good stuff also.

Just talked to Al Reed about this since he did my wheels and I am due to clean/polish. He has no particular brand to suggest, but did have a pointer or two for at least the wheels he has refinished.

He suggests polishing the paddles in a side to side motion vs. the length of the paddle - due to the method/direction he polishes them in. IRT the rims, he says to go around them. He also suggested putting the stuff on one at a time and then by the time you're done withthe 4, it should be dry for the buffing.

Thought I'd pass that on FWIW

PAG sez to use vasoline; some use wax as vasoline picks up dust if not rubbed in and causes elbow damage if it is rubbed in well.

an agressive polish will remove the anodizing eventually

Just dropped off a set of Fuchs at Al's shop for a polish/paint/clearcoat and asked him about the maintenance once completed.

All he said was, "wash, spray with windex, and wipe off". This is for the clearcoated wheels though.

Is there a set fee for Al Reed to strip and polish or is it quoted by the condition of the wheels?

He'll usually charge you by the wheel on what you want - If he runs into anything out of the norm he'll call you - he had to straighten one of my 8 x 16's

Mine set of 4 ran about $75 per wheel plus taxes. I am sure that once they get a look at your wheels and know what you want to do with them, they will work out a fair fee. Just another satisfied customer.
