Ok, I'm curious about this. Anybody know if it's real?
I know many of you guys drive Mulhuoland often, so maybe you've heard of it? Or is it just a joke? Very elaborate if it is...

From that site:
What is the number one thing people ask us? By a significant margin: "What is the best car I could possibly own for 10/10ths canyon driving?" Somewhat indicative, between the lines: "Tell me I'm not a **** for brains who got succored out of his money buying an overweight, 120 thousand dollar Volkswagon, with a Porsche logo on it." Learn to spell suckered then then make fun of others. Overall there is some good stuff on that site. Edit:Oh geez, succored IS a word, and it's used correctly. Baah, I want a refund from my university...

I've used the maps, in the past. But the rest of the verbage on the site reminds me of what might happen if all the Gruppe B guys moved to the California canyons.
...not that I think that would be a bad thing.

They seem kind of over the top. Some of its entertaining, and some I agree with.
It seems they have a suble bias against people with expensive cars, and people who work on their own car, all while calling for light weight cars. I'm glad someone was enthused enough to write it out. |

I like the writing. I think many a driver should review and commit to memory the suggested rules of Canyon carving.

I lived on Mulholland for 18 years between the 405 and Coldwater.
Racing was common through the late 80s and then it dropped off quite a bit. Slowly, more and more houses (and driveways) popped up and it became harder to avoid traffic. Stop signs and traffic lights appeared and took the fun out of it. Plus, the cops were really focused on stopping it and pretty much succeeded. In the 80s, you could reliably pick up a race with a 1-liter bike in two or three places... See the movie "King of the Mountain" for a dramatized version of how it was in the 70s.

Passing over double-yellows on blind curves is a bad idea in the daytime when someone might be there on a bike. I noticed that these guys seem to only drive at night?

Whoever wrote the text on the site obviously took a "Verbal Advantage" course (expands one's vocabulary) several years ago. The whole thing seems written to impress rather than inform. But, there're just so many misspellings and incorrect uses of "big words," it's hard to take seriously.
If it is serious, these guys really think a lot of themselves. Last edited by Leader; 02-11-2004 at 02:41 PM.. |

The writing style tests my patience.
My teachers taught me to "refrain from interjecting a multi-syllabic word when a suitable, yet diminutive word will suffice" Apparently the author was sick that day and missed the lesson.

Leader, you beat me to it.
The guy is really giving his vocabulary a workout. His ability to use words exceeds his ability to use them correctly. If he drives like he writes, he's spending a lot of time in the weeds.
