GHL Headers and Heat Exchangers

Anyone have comments on GHL headers and heat exchangers? My mechanic told me the GHL's have bigger pipes, which actually allow for more HP gain on a 3.2, unlike SSI's. I have been told that there may be a problem with GHL's allowing water or moisture in the heat exchangers, producing steam in the cab and fog on the windows. Is this true? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

The SSI's are only a little undersized on a 3.2. They can and have been successfully used even on 3.6. The issue is cost /benefit, for much less $$ you can fit a euro pre muffler and derive 90% of the benefit. The equal length pipes don't add anything unless cams w/ more overlap are also installed. You are only reducing flow restriction for these engines.

The GHL design does not tightly fit the heater boxes around the pipes , so yes, water can enter at this point and yes, it will find it's way into the cabin.

I'd go with SSIs if you are staying with a 3.2.
Actually, I'd stay with your stock Carrera HEs - they are nearly
as good as SSIs re HP. Bang for buck wise this is the way to go.
But for the cool factor - SSI or GHL are nice.

A tiny bit more HP can be gained with a dual in dual out muffler.

You should stick with 1 5/8 OD primaries, 1 1/2 ID. Anything else is a bit big and will hurt your midrange. Is this a stock motor?

Cheers, James

I have a stock 3.2. I have a euro pre-muffler and single in, dual out flowmaster in my garage as we speak. The flowmaster is from a 3.0 and my mechanic told me that it does not fit my 3.2 properly. The option of GHL headers and heat exchangers along with a GHL dual out or single out muffler (my option) has presented itself, so I have to at least consider it. I will be purchasing a Steve W chip as soon as I decide what exhaust to run.
