I didn't even bother. I knew it was very likely to diminish the sensitivity of the laser detector so I wanted to avoid it all together.

All I can say is thank god for scatter.

Well, if it works for you. The advantage that you do have is you can still use your visors. I'm still mulling that one over.

My car doesn't even have visors. A good pair of sun glasses and you can throw those things away.

I just read the entire V1 website. Pretty interesting stuff. Without taking the 911s unique shape into consideration, he sais to mount as high as possible behind the tint strip to get away from sun reflection.

Personally I don't want them (cops) to see my detector. I feel it's asking for more trouble than the car already screams for.

What about window tint? Does that block detection?

How about mounting the unit a couple of inches below the headliner at the REAR of the car above the rear seat deck? Disquise it as a 3rd brake light (that can't be seen from outside the vehicle due to the heavy tint)?

I also don't like the Fuzz or anyone else to see my detector. The only way to see it is with the sunroof open. So if I were to get stopped I would shut the roof. Where I have mine above the visior, one can hardly see it. It is behind the tint and I don't think the tint hurts the performance very much.

Tint hasn't affected mine enough to measure. Mounting the unit out of reach in the back prevents you from turning it off while you're driving. It happens often enough that I want it within reach.

As high as possible, as already stated by everyone else. Detector is more of preference, i personally like the passport much more than the valentine. Out here in Flat land, i can pick up a cop about 1/4 to 1 mile down the road if there aren't too many obstructions in the way, and it can display multiple signals at once, so i know how many there are too . (that's useful at the end of the month when the quota fairy comes to collect)

EDIT: BTW Zoanas, it only took me 3 tries to stop your avatar in the right spot

Even V1's web site recommends keeping the radar unit away from tint since just like regular light it will diminish the signal.

Tint should only affect Lazer, unless there is a mettalic film in it. Radar waves are not in the visual light spectrum.

Yes, Mr. V states that tinted glass will diminish the sensitivity, but not as much as direct sunlight does. The tint on my windows is very dark but not metalic.

From what I am hearing from you all it might be best to fabricate a bracket that mounts the detector just above the rear view mirror. It can be places back a few inches to make it less conspicuous from outside looking in. (I'm thinking at $400 a pop some punk kid won't think twice about bashing the window in to steal it).

So this leaves the remote.
I've seen your pix (thank you very much) with them mounted at the bottom of the tach and lower on the dash. I stared at my dash for quite a while today from behind the wheel looking for that optimal spot. Nothing popped out at me. The idea of replacing the seat belt warning light is good. Is there enough room? Pictures? Modifications? Haven't measured it but the spot doesn't look big enough and it's not flat.

The only place that I would consider other than my current location on the tach would be to disassemble the tach and figure out a way to integrate the V1 display into the face of it. I looked at the seat belt light location, and I didn't like looking down and to the right to see the arrows on the V1. The tach location allows peripheral vision with maybe a quick glance down to pick it up.

You're right about the seat belt light location. It is pretty close but not staring you in the face as it must.

How about fabbing a little housing for it as it sits below the tach? Just to make it look more like it belongs there. Ideas?

If I modify anything, it's going under the glass on the face of the tach.
