Why early 911?

For a long time we've heard about early 911s. Why would you buy an early 911 (69-73) over a later 911? "Get one while you can" why?

Because the interior isn't entirely made of plastic?

Because they are light weight?

Because they look nice?

Because they aren't pretentious?

Because Steve McQueen drove one?

Isn't "asking" the whole point of this board? Otherwise, we'd all be experts. Like a teacher of mine used to say, "the only stupid questions are the ones not asked."

I know you were just kiddin', Kurt. Er, at least I hope you were. heh heh heh

I actually like the clean lines, more "retro" look, especially with period mods such as the driving lights and ducktails, and the cool colors.
I got my SC partially because I know it's rock solid, but also because I got tired of hearing how great the early cars are compared to everything else. Now though, I'm hoping to trade my SC for a mechanically solid TARGA early car.
BK911 if you're reading - I've come to terms with seeing her go and am ready for that trade!

you can always buy a later model car...

later.

Did you see Bob Tilton's car? Are there really any questions after that?

Ooops...that was my engine

I had intended to post this baby.

Drive something like this car (one that is designed only for sport purpose) and you will forget about: air conditioning, soft suspension, and interior noise.

Early cars are light, nimble, and require experienced input from their drivers.

speaking of sport purpose...

how about one of my favorite pics of the 911ST lightweight. Notice the factory deleted items.

See them again in another car!

and the last reason...

Well, there really is no reasoning with passion.

Last one is my favorite.

Why an early one?

Not every one has piles of cash. And some have a lady who would tolerate under $10k for a toy, but no more. You can get into an early one much more cheaply..especially if you are willling to work on it. And for that price, you are getting the real 911 experience.

Doug

because it's pure and raw , a drivers car
it demands more respect , it's not as forgiving
anybody can drive a car with traction control , abs, esp and whatever electronical aids they have these days...

All 911’s are great cars. Each change produced a car that was in someway better and appealed to a larger crowd. But the early cars have a unique, maybe indefinable quality about them, a “purity” of design IMHO.
