Because there were probably fewer early cars all together than they make 996's in one year? Well, Boxster's for sure.
You know early 911S's and 911E's of each year are pretty were made in smaller numbers than your shelby mustangs and most all of you muscle cars of the highest esteem. They lighten automatically with age ![]() no emissions, well for most of us ![]() Did I say they are cool! They don't have all their chrome blacked out! A stock original can still make a very competent showing perormance wise today, and a modified one can become a true SUPER car at a realitively low price. Oh, and they are Cool! The key may be, they are like Harley's, can be loved stock or personalized, increase in value with age, and their is a comradarie among the people that own them. Plus they are really cool! Don't even get me into my appreciation for them due simply to the highest quality engineering that produced them.

If I wanted safety, reliability, and top performance I'd buy a new car. My '69S is a toy. It's fast enough, light, loud, and fun to drive. I'm not a fan of blacked-out trim, colored Fuchs, and big bumpers and flares on a driver. The early cars are understated and beautifully proportioned. They are also still relatively cheap and easy to work on.
Now for a track car basically none of the above would apply. |

We love nostalgia!
and.................. . I can get to my engine without removing a maze of electronic components, sheet metal and monitors. . Back then you drove one out of the showroom right onto the track! . They are noisy, torquey, light weight and gleen of simplistic engineering. . They were the automotive examples of the world . It was literally driving by the seat of your pants on the older seats. I velcro my butt on them daily!! . They have kept their value and continue to escalate. . Everyone asks, "let me guess, its a 1970"?! . Driving it makes me feel like a "Rebel Without A Cause" . and..............they are just plain beautiful to look at. . it is simply.......................wonderful Bob 1973.5T in Sepia Brown and proud of it

nothing beats the Early Aircooled Flat 6, still one of the most reliable engines in the world aside from the Chevy 350 Small Block

HE ASKS WHY?
BEACAUSE GAWD AND FERRY PORCHE RESTED IN 1974. They have a purity of essence you might say....and it gives the R Gruppe something to do.

having an early 911 is a special experience that one really can't describe, you just have to experience. For a reasonable price, you get a car that is both history and art and yet can maintain and surpass many modern vehicles all while giving you something most new cars can't - a unique vehicle.
And its that value that is hard to express either monetarily or by comparison to more modern Porsche cars. There is a soul to an early car that is missing IMHO from most cars on the road today. Finally, because of the evolution of the 911 there is nearly no limit to the improvements one can make to ones car. The process of planning, saving and implementing those changes, sometimes referred to as "hot rodding" is my personal favorite aspect of the early car experience. I love flipping through mag's, surfing the web and reading about the efforts of you good people on your rides as I plan (dream) about what improvement I might make next. I hope that I will always have an early 911 in my garage. --James
