I am NOT a 1/4 miler.......but........

What would be a guess - for reference - of 0-60 & 1/4 mile times
for my SC at 2670 lbs and 315hp 3.6 Varioram? High 12s in the 1.4 mile??

I seriouly doubt that you will realistically have 315hp.
Ask me how I might happen to know.

Acceleration, will be adequate. Especially if overall gearing is reasonable.

Thom took his to the track and ran a 12.7, your times will probably be in the same region depending on how much you beat the car on the launch.

A lot of time mispent on various dynos.

A 3.6 vram can legitamataly generate in the 290s fwhp when optimized w/ headers and chip. The factory really didn't leave much on the table.

A cam/valves can boost that to the low 300s at the expense of low speed torque which is more than adequate in any case.

Was interesting to see Dynojet readings on this list in the range of 268 rwhp - extrapolate this to 315hp (?) si?

Craig,

It was my car the dyno'd 268 rwhp. I seriously doubt there is more than 300-305 at the crank. Also, a reading of 268 on this dyno might not be 268 on all of them. But...before my Varioram was working I dyno'd 224 on the same dyno.

Rwhp and torque is all that counts really. The good news is torque was above 200 ft/lbs from 3100 rpms all the way up.

'78SC @ 2500lb
3.0L w/SSIs & no A/C
Big Ass tires + the rare perfect launch = 14.2 @ 92mph

A 3.6 should be capable of high 12's

There is a lot of information here on numerous 3.6 and 3.8 cars w/ and w/o mods. All were done on the same dyno by the same crew and can be validly compared w/ each other.

Here is another site w/ lots of data.. Again all data was collected from the same type of dyno and can validly be compared within the data set. Mostly 964 stuff though.

This is fairly accurate if you want to play with it. Plug in estimated wheel HP and weight WITH DRIVER. Remember that this calculater is assumin that traction is not a problem.

sheeeet, if that don't beat all!

Just imagine what that could mean at the rear wheels - with the back end of an SC actually having a drive train!

LOL

I read an article in one of the Porsche mags, maybe GT, about a 3.2 with the 993 transplant. They discussed varioram holding back the engine around the 300 range and at upper RPMs. They removed varioram on this car and there was mention that 400 hp could be attained with Varioram removed. Not agreeing or disagreeing, but just passing on what I read. I will be happy to find article when I get home if anyone is interested in it.

No, A vram would not be wanted on an all out race motor. The Supercups do not have it. The RSCS is the top model w/ it.

Vram is designed to enhance the midrange torque of a street motor, making it more flexible in street use at street rpm levels.

A race motor will use TWM intakes and be undriveable for most street use.

Different horses for different courses.

The vram is good for power into the low 300s and rpm to ~7300

If your tansmission is still the 915, I do not think you will be making many 12 second runs in your car. If you can get 315 horsepower out of your car, you should be running in the upper 12s.

I run 12.6 and 12.7 on G-Tech in my 90. I have spent alot on my motor though and it is probably only about 300 hp for now but torque was around 240 at the wheels.
