Question H4 Installation Help!!!

Well, I finally got the outer trim rings off my 1983 911SC. 20 years of driving made them a little sticky. I have removed the entire headlight bucket, and am trying to install the new H4 assemblies, but I can't seem to make them fit. I have followed the Pelican instructions as best possible, but no luck.

My questions are as follows:

When I drop the new H4 assembly into the bucket, and allign the bottom screw, the two diagonal screws do not line up with the female threads on the body, which I assume they are supposed to do. Am I missing something?

Also, Pelican sent me two "headlight screw, inner" with the H4s. For the life of me, I can not figure out what these are for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John

Hi there,

allthough I can't give you all the info you need I think the two screws you're refering to are the ones located on the H4 underneath the trim ring, on the bottom in the middle. They are hollow and are used to hold the H4 and when you put the trim ring on you can use another screw that fits in the bottom one. Makes any sense?

Good luck,

John,

Are these Bosch 'Euro' H4 headlamp assemblies you are installing?

If so, the only attachment point to the bucket/fender is the single bottom retaining screw. The threaded shelves/tabs inside the buckets are only used with the USA sealed-beam assemblies.

The 'mystery' screw Pelican sent you sounds like the mounting screw for the Bosch H4 assembly when an outer paintable cover is used ... the center is threaded, right? A smaller Phillipshead screw is designed to retain another trim ring/cover at that same single retention point at the bottom!

Thanks for the help. I think I've got it now. My only remaining problem is the actual seal on the new H4 assembly. The driver's side looks fine, but the passenger side does not fit as well. The seal is not "tight" between the chrome ring and the body on about a 3" area of the outside. If you look closely, you can actually see into the headlight bucket in a tiny area. If I make if fit snug on the outside, then the inside has a gap. Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe a little dab of silicone.....

Thanks,
John

I think that will do, be sure to use plenty though because mine are so snug I can't even get them out anymore!
