Almost ready for primer.
I was hoping to have her in primer yesterday but I kept finding more prep work to do. But the paint booth is up and shes mostly masked off. So maybe sometime this week. I broke my windshield taking it out. So EuroEast to the rescue.(Thanks Jerry)

Shawn, before you paint ANY color coat, go down to the paint store and get a big roll of paint paper. I never, ever use newspaper for painting. Those dam paper fibers get into everything! They make the paint paper in different widths and I usually try to keep a roll of 24" and 36" wide paper on hand. It is very cheap to buy. Also, if you are not using it, get the 3M painters masking tape. It comes off much easier than regular masking tape and doesn't leave a sticky residue.

Kurt good tip on the paper. My wife cut me loose for the whole weekend in the garage. I made good use of the time. I have a little body work to do on the front bumper but other than that a little masking and primer baby!

I will get some of the painting paper before I color coat it. I am going to wetsand the primer so it should be fine for that. Here are a couple more shots. You can see more of the home made paint boot in these shots.

Shwan you need to make sure you cover EVERYTHING you don't want to see overspray on. That includes the entire interior.

I am gonna set the lights outside the booth when I spray. I still need to mask the door openings, sunroof opening, oil tank, and the front trunk.
I am putting up a plastic wall where the garage door is and an exhaust opening low and on the right. Double filtered and use a box fan to pull out the exhaust.

Make sure you tape two filters to the intake side of the fan also. That will keep the fan blades and motor nice and clean.

Have you thought about using the fan to send filtered air IN so that you have positive pressure in the booth to avoid pulling dust in through the unseen/new cracks ? |

Lack of light will be your enemy. You may want to bring one of those portable flourescent lights in with you for those hard to see spots. Just a thought.
BTW, Costco has the really nice dual-bulb worklights for $14.

With the garage door open and the halogens on there is alot of light in there. If I see the need for more light as I am shooting primer I will get some lights before I shoot color.
I thought about a positive pressure booth. I like the idea of a fresh air intake up high on one end and the exhaust fan low on the other end. Pulling overspray down. Plus we get a good breeze out of the west which is the intake side of my garage. I have an HVLP gravity fed gun so overspray should be minimal.
