Carrera Values?

I'm trying to estimate the value of a 1985 Carrera with 91k in excellent condition. The car is very original and has books/records.

KBB and Edmunds seem to be ridiculously low, while eBay seems to only have either project cars or super-low mileage collector cars. Are there any other online (or other) sources for pricing information?

The street value right now would max at around $18K. Maybe a touch higher to the right buyer.

There's a clean 72K 85 red coupe that's been on Trader for 4 months not selling @ $18K. (Good compression, probably needs clutch according to PPI the PO told me).

I was a bad PPI away (surprise, surprise leakdown is 55% & 50% in 3 & 4) from a 60K 85 clean blue coupe that was settling @ $17K. Also still on Trader.

Its tough, because most people when they get to the Carreras go for the G50 cars, so that hurts the 84-86 values somewhat. I agree with the max for a Carrera being around $18k for your average, driven but really nice car. Since that would be about right for a G50 car, I'd guess about $16k max for the car. Just a data point, I paid $11.5k for my 85 in nice (but not excellent) condition with 130k on the clock.

unless the market has come up, $18K seems a bit high unless it is a very well sorted car. 91K is kinda "typical" mileage these days, and you can get an early 964 these days for under $20K.

I am not looking, but if I were, $18K would get me a very nice G50 carrera, or a 964.

No way would I pay $18K for an 85 coupe, which is a 3.2L version of an SC.

Here's the reality of the marketplace . . .

Every 84 - 89 I have seen that is under $19K typically has an issue or issues.

Either:

Dash and/or headliner are toast.
or
Paint is pockmarked with stonechips.
or
Leather is badly scratched, cracked or holes.
or
Clutch/syncros need $s.
or
Mileage is well over 100K.
or
Fails PPI for leakdown.
or
It's been chipped, mufflered, K&N'd etc
or
It's red or black.
or
All of the above (especially true for G50s)

Despite the falling prices (and pressure from the 964 'black sheep') the selection ain't great. So, it's easy to say you wouldn't pay over XXX for an XXX with XXX. But it's not easy to actually find one . . .

You say that like it's a bad thing . Besides, any SCWDP member will tell you this isn't true becase Carreras weigh, on average, 500lbs more than an SC.

Ehhh... You are not looking hard enough. How bout an 86 Cab with 64K miles and in pristine condition for $17K?

For the right buyer, if this car is truly no stories I would say you could get between 17-18K. you have to remember that the majority of the guys on this site are DIYers. You may find someone who is just looking for a well sorted car, not too worried about 1-2k swing for the right car. Looks really nice!

I have seen pics of your car many times. But a Cab is out for the sub-Arctic tundra where I live. A coupe is the steed I'm chasin'.

If you meant 85 Turbo look, add about $5K, so $22 - 23K.

Thanks for the link, NADA values seem to be a little more in line with what "I" was expecting. However, based on these posts, I wonder if the market actually supports these prices.
