SC Wheel Experts Needed - RUF to Fuchs
I am converting our 1982 SC from 17" RUF wheels to 7" and 9" X 16" Fuchs.
Could someone please tell me what would be the correct lengths for both the front and rear wheel studs? The car currently has the RUF adapters in the rear with long studs, and adapters in the front that use short bolts to attach through the rotor to the hub. Thank You, Lindy |

I went exactly the opposite, from 16" Turbo Fuchs 7" and 9" X 16 to 17" RUFs 7" and 9" X 17.
I did not use any special bolts or anything...my car is an 82SC. What are you doing with the RUFs?

I had them on my car for more than 2 years and gone thru at least 5-6 track days, no problems... IMHO these are the most beautiful rims for the 911

For what is may be worth, real RUF wheels do not "break in a spectacular manner".
There are a number of wheels that were actually manufactured by Borbet (not Speedline) with RUF center inserts added, that have cracked at the junction between the spoke and the inner rim. This was due to porosity in this area due to a problem with the casting process. |

RUF WHEELS????
Ya gettin rid of them? Why? I get more thumbs up on the wheels period. Mine are the speedline REAL DEALS.
Just logged 130 miles today on the ride, Mainly freeway 85 mph plus. Great day here in MI 75 degrees Partly sunny. Took it to office gave many joy rides. Most were hard pressed to believe the car is a 1987! Porsche Engineering. Took boss up to 140mph. The most he has smiled in months!. Cheers. John

jmarenas,
I know what you mean! I've been driving my 911 for the past two days and I'm loving every minute of it! I took my family to Florida and put 3400 miles on the Ford Taurus, then as soon as we came home on Wednesday, I jumped in the 911 and went for a drive! What a feeling!!! Have fun!

How can you tell the difference between the Speedlines and the Borbets?

What size 17" RUF's are commonly used on SC/Carrera 3.2? 17x7 front and 17x9 rear? Did they make a 17x8? I know the 17x10 for 930 Turbo are too wide for narrow body, right? Too bad. I like the deeper lip on the 10's. thanks Mike '86 coupe. Fuchs 16x7,8 |

Mike,
I cannot speak for all RUF/SC combinations, however mine are 7" and 9", and are the early (more rounded spoke) RUF rims. The rears use very long wheel studs with spacers, and the fronts use an apapter that bolts onto the front hub. The wheel studs are actually part of the adapter itself. The Borbet "RUF" wheels typically do not have any lettering at all (from what I have been told). Real RUF wheels will have "Speedline" lettering on the inner side of the wheel. Can anyone tell me what the correct stud length is for a Fuchs 9" rear wheel? Thanks, Lindy |

It sounds like you have 964 RUFs. The ones that fit the SC are direct bolt on and they are 17X8 and 17X9 no one makes a copy and they don't need adapters, diferent studs.

I agree with piedogger. My 8,9x17 Rufs just bolt on.

This a 8*16 fuchs replica in same dimensions as the OE but cast. It was on my car when I bought it and I didn't know they where replicas. It was installed as lh front wheel when it broke. I was criusing with about 100 mph/160 kmph, the car went into spin, hit the crash barrier (you know, the heavy steel one, made up from 4 mm steel bended into profile) with both front and rear end. The front fenders looked like 993 items, oil cooler smashed, washer bottle aso, same like in back. 4 new fenders, new front inner wheel well rh front complete into dash, 2 new lids, stretched in bench, new panels, lower A-arm+more. Insurence wanted it written of, but a '76 targa Carrera (200HP) with turbo look is very difficult to find, so they agreed to rebuilt. While at it I payed to have the rest fixed and did a lot my self.
The star of the wheel where still attatched to the hub and there where still pressure in the tire but unfortunately they where no longer one part. The rest of these replicas are in the addic waiting to be used for my garden hose and air pressure hose in my new built house. Oh, in case you wonder, I walked away a little dizzy but otherwise unharmed thanks to the robust nature of Stuttgart finest.
