Tranny problem. What to do "while he's in there?"

My now infamous now ex-mechanic who nearly derailed my 3.6 project left one final reminder of his good work. When he had the tranny apart to replace worn syncros and new dogs teeth, he apparently forgot the little retainer piece that prevents the tranny from engaging in two gears at once. The tranny locks up about every 6 months and I have to get it towed. The quick fix is to drop the bottom plate and manually realign the forks. I'm sick of this semi-annual event, so it's time to drop the tranny and do it right. My new and trusted mechanic will be doing the work. Anything special I should consider? I've thought about taller gears in first and second. And probably Swepco. Anything else?

Besides this glitch, the car runs like a dream.

Here's my list. In order of increasing expense:
Use a modified 2nd gear dog ring for 1st gear. It is symmetrical and allows for better downshifting into 1st while still moving. Dennis Aase did mine when I got mine rebuilt.
Short shifter if you don't have one. I like the factory one.
Carbon Fiber metallic clutch disc if you don't have one already.
Factory LSD or Quaife. Your choice. I prefer the Quaife.
WEVO notch plate in the 915.
Modification to include transmission oil cooler and oil squirters for your gears since you have mucho torque with that 3.6

Swepco is a great idea.

Have fun,
Rob
