Flywheel Bolts, Replace or Not

Well I put the old flywheel bolts back on the flywheel although the engine is still out of the car. I understand that these bolts are expansion bolts. I torqued them down to the proper 115ft-lbs. Do these bolts really need to be replaced?

Thanks

zac

Yep, those are stress to yield: i.e. good for one torquing.

Pressure plate bolts are commonly reused, although most folks are scared to reuse them. While PP bolts can (according to some folks) be reused, not so with flywheel bolts. Always use brand new ones.

For the price, its good to use new PP bolts.

Also, you can put a _small_ dab of red Loctite on the flywheel bolts.

Be sure to torque properly and be sure the torque wrench is accurate.

for both sets, tighten a little bit at a time.

I am guilty of reusing my flywheels bolts many times, with red loctite, for many years with no issues.

I do not race, but drive very hard.

Okay, good one other person. I didn't want to have to get back into the clutch as my engine is almost back together.

Thanks for the help

Does it say from 1978 on? I am assuming these are model years. I believe we're talking about a 1971

I've always replaced the flywheel bolts but if you read your factory manual you won't find "replace with new" until the dual mass flywheels. The dual mass flywheels used much longer flywheel bolts I think.
