is an 87 carrera bigger?

dang i thought i posted this que before, but i cant find it.

i drove an 87 yesterday, the car feels bigger. i wish i had a tape measure, but the seats feel farther apart, the steering wheel feels bigger, everything. is it? i know it feels heavier. i just jumped into the 87, straight from my 75.

Nope, just heavier.

With its standard flares, it is bigger than your 75 at the hip, and heavier.

yep, they are pretty much the same since the beginning until the 964, and even it is the same size. Now I can tell you that in my '88 there was tons of legroom. The driver's side seat went farther back than the passenger's side. I don't know if the location of the holes might have been moved back over the years for a little more leg room, but it seem possible.

The steering wheel is different, probably a thicker rim, but I would think that the wheel would be the same diameter or maybe even smaller. Does your car have the stock wheel?

The flares make a big difference visually, but the dimensions are the same otherwise.

Yep, the '88 probably weighs a couple of hundred pounds more than your car.

Was it a coupe with a white headliner? that would make it feel bigger inside than your targa w/ black roof.

The drivers and passenger seats were lowered by approximately 20mm in 1986. This is probably what you felt....

Yeah....lowered in comparison to 85's (like my car !)....and bringing it about equal to 84's.

Figures...85's are unique like sitting in a high chair !!!

When I was tracking a lot I used Recaros seats which mounted much lower than stock. Lots of helmet room and the interior felt roomier in normal use.

It is amazing, I was measuring my P-cars last night (I'm building a second 'Porsche Only' garage), and the over-all length and width difference between my '59, '66 and '87 is less then an inch (not counting the '87 rear's big rubber bumper pads and fender flairs) It sure makes it easy to design items (garages, trailers, car covers) around the 'Porsche Model'.
Boy the 996 and Boxster sure broke that mold.

A friend of mine was looking for a trailer for her 993 and discovered that a Trailex (I think) trailer for a pre-993 911 was too narrow for her 993.
-Chris

EDIT: She was looking at an open trailer. The point I was trying to make is that the track of the 993 must be wider than earlier cars.

Trailex makes some very nice trailers, here's one I liked a lot.

Plenty of room
