Few simple techy question to ask please! 911 2.7L

Hello

This is my first time on the forum, i have quite limited knowledge of Porsche engines.!

I've just fitted a 911 2.7 1974 engine into my VW 1950s camper van.

a few issues arose this morning as i went to start it for the first time!!!!

1. The oil light didnt go out after a while of pumping the oil round. I have the wire connected to the 'senders' near the gearbox end, as opposed to the one on the right side of the Fan. Which of the 'senders' should i attatch the oil pressure light too?

- i guess the other ones for oil temp??

I dont want to start it up until the light on my dash goes out, for safety etc.

2. Engine has Zenith 40s Tins. The fuel cut of solenoid is not working, can i just remove the little 'piston' from the inside to by=pass the valve? (im having trouble gettign a working one in the UK).?

thanks all!

Paul,

Good for you. I’ve done a few also. A 2.5 911 in a ‘58 flatbed transporter,
a 4-cam Carrera in a ’60 bus, a 2.2 911 in a new ’72 bus, etc. Clearly Gruppe B.

Yes, the oil pressure switch is on top of the engine near the flywheel.
The senders to the right of the fan is the small oil temp sender (2) and the
large oil pressure sender (1) for the analog gauges.
If you don’t get pressure while cranking, get a mechanical gauge to test.

Do you have everything properly grounded?

Where did you put the oil tank? Images please.

Tell us more about the 40TIN problem.
Has the engine been recently running properly?
If it has been sitting for a long time – STOP.
Is the fuel tank clean?

Best,
Grady

HELLO
thanks for the advice!

I'll send you the piccies of the engine bay layout for you 2 have a look at.

I went to start the engine for the first time, basically the carbs do need rebuilding, i thought i may get away with not doing that. I can do it easily, its just the extra cost im having problems paying.

Zenith carb parts are seriously rare(not great) over here, i can get the rebuild gasget sets etc for £50 each, but cant get the new Acc Pump Jets and the brass squirty fuel parts at all. So im in a bit of a dilema as to what to do.

Im gonna have to keep searching for these final parts to finish the carbs.

I also need to fuel cut of solenoid, as this is faulty as well.

Any good stockists of Zenith spares in the US ?? !

i ' ll send over the pics now!

thankyou
poze
