Ingo,

How are things working out with your 951 16x8 Fuchs on the rear of your narrow body car? I'm thinking about trying the same setup on my '71 911T. Have you had any rubbing?

Thannks for the updates,
-Kaefer

I love it and have nothing but fun. Rubbing. Yes, ever so slighty on the passenger side (oil line and fender) under severe cornering (high-speed track) driving. It has not really bothered me. I could raise the car by a half inch and/or massage the fender a little bit more. But oh well.

However, be aware that you have to dial in more than 2 degrees negative camber to make this setup work.

Cheers,
Ingo

Ingo,

Do you plan on staying with 225/50/16 tires or would you recommend going with a 225/45/16?

Thanks for the help,
-Kaefer
My 16x8 951 wheels should arrive late next week!

I purchased a full set of 951 wheels, 2-7s and 2-8s. Are the 7's of any real use on an early 911, i.e., would it make sense to run the 951 7's in the front and 951 8's in the rear with lot's of negative camber. I would probably run 205/50R16's in the front and 225/45R16's in the back. This would be on a stock narrow body, does anybody currently run this combo? If so please post your thoughts and any pics if possible. Thanks!

I can't speak for Ingo, but 225/45-16 would be a natural choice for this if you're ok with the gearing. the main issue I can think of is that DOT R compound tires aren't available in this size, at least most of them.

Michael,

951 and 911 7"x16"s are the same basic wheel only the 8"x16" has the different offset. So the set you have is the same basic setup as Ingo.

I'd like to see any of these cars lowered so the tires tuck inside the wheel wells without rubbing. Has anybody succeeded with 8s in this regard?

are the rear flares on a stock '74 more flared than a stock '70? I have installed 16x7's with 225/55 on the rear of my '70 and they rub when cornering. I have yet to add neg. camber.

Ingo, do you have any pics of the front? Any rubbing up there?

I just bought a 70 T on Friday. After reading this thread my day is made. My only question is that I am told that the 951 wheels came in two offsets. What is the offset number that I should buy?

The 951 Fuchs came in only one offset- both the 16x7 and 16x8 are ET +23.3mm and were only offered to fit the 1986 944 Turbo. Then in 1987 along came a revision in suspension geometry and it necessitated higher offset wheels. I think this is where you got the information that there are different offsets for 951 wheels. The "phone dial" ATS wheels that were used on the 944 Turbo from 1986-1988 have two offsets. The 1986 phone dial wheels are 16x7/8 like the Fuchs and have the same +23.3mm offset as the Fuchs. The 1987 phone dials look almost identical to the 1986 wheels, but have a higher offset of +52.3mm

OK. Then I want the 23.3 offset and the part number should start with 951?

16x7 = 951.362.115.00
16x8 = 951.362.117.00

Note that the "00" is typically missing from the part number stamped on the wheel. You'll know the 951 wheels when you see them. The 16x7 looks like a 911 16x6 Fuchs, except for the countersunk lug holes on the 951. Same goes for the 16x8- it looks like a regular 911/930 16x7 except again for the countersunk lug holes
