Targa Window frame question

Hey this is my 911th post.

In an effort to get more airflow into my Targa on days I want to keep the roof on I was thinking about adding some openning quarter windows on the doors. I would have to change the window frame to do so of course

So did the early targas come with quater windows that would open and can I install them on my 78 911.

Yes, early cars had opening windows, I once considered doing the same thing myself (I love functional vent windows) but just never got around to it. If you have black trim the hardest part will probably be finding black functional vent windows since back in the day most of the cars came with chrome trim. I never checked into this much, but I would think that you could use pretty much any vent window as long as it was out of a targa.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Black window frames were available for Targas with vent windows in '75 and '76.

It's funny, I'm trying to keep wind out of my Targa. Unless the tops off of course.

Roman. I suspect you have your AC hooked up. Without such, a gentle breeze from the vent window could be much appreciated.

I don't' have the AC hooked up, I live in SF where Mark Twain supposedly said, "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco."
It's all good though, I was just referring to all the wind noise you get with a Targa.

Yeah the wind noise can get annoying every once and a while but that is when I am usually beat tired and shouldn't be in the car anyway.

I do not have A/C. Now that I have been taking my son out I have found if I run with the windows open more than half way he get quite a wind blast. Figure vent windows will keep the air flowing and my son won't get blown out of the back seat.

Found some. Little more costly than I want to pay right this moment so I will wait until my tax return comes in and I will buy them.

They are chrome however. Any good way to strip the chrome and either powder coat or anodize them black

You should be able to powder coat right over the chrome.

The black trim was avaiable on '75 and '76 Carreras. Here's a shot of my '76.

they're very handy.

Two words --

wind noise

There is a reason "modern" cars no longer come with openable vent windows.

Witha targa wind noise is a given, no matter what. I've ridden in Bills car, at speed there is more wind noise than engine noise. I don't even know why he is bothering to replace his stereo.
