tire size option 85 carrera
Tried to do a search and found lots of interesting tire size discussions but nothing that really directly answered my question. I have an 85 cab that had on it 15X7 and 15X8 fuchs when I bought it. I assume they are stock but not for sure. I don't have the owners manual. Question is was that a stock size for that year and was there an option for 16X7 and 16X8. Trying to figure out how big I can go and stay stock.

7&8x15 was an option. 7&8x16 was not.
But 7&8 or 7&9x16 are fine choices for an upgrade, 205/55 and 245/45 would be the best tire choices for least hassle.

Dfink,
I have the same car with the same wheels and am looking for tires right now. Tire Rack has the best selection. They do have 245x50x15 for the 8's and a 225x50x15 for the 7's up front, made by Dunlop (SP8000), Z rated, decent reviews, not outrageously priced. I am personally trying to get as much rubber on the road as possible, hence my search for 245's. 225's are easy and there are many more choices. I am in the same dilemma, buy new tires and stick with the 15" Fuch (which I recently had polished out by Al Reed and they look great) or try to find new wheels.

245/50x16are too tall for use w/stock gearing, you'll be sorry if you use them.

Bill, my goal is to get the widest possible tire i can. Since they are only 15 inch rims, i don't want to go too low on the profile, or it will look stupid. I have been searching for the perfect solution, even if I have to add spacers, I will. I just really like the wheel wells filled out to the max without having to roll the lips.

Humm, I remember my 84 Carrera came with 16 inch wheels and tires from the factory with a sticker on the car. 225-55-16 is the rear ones.

225/50ZR15
23.9" height 881 revs/mi 881 height 245/50ZR15 24.7"height 848 revs/mi The more significant figure is the revs/mi you will not like the change from the 225/50 to the 250/50 225/50x16 on 7s was an option on '84 Carrera, 225/55 x16 was not.

Are the 245's on the top picture? Those look really good.

Both are 245's. The top are RE730's and bottom are Pilot Sports (now on Drago's car).

So does (or has) anyone ran some 245's on 8X15?

That is right, it was 225-50 VR 16 on the rear, and 205-55 VR 16 in front. Don't have the car anymore and apparently, gone too is my memory.

I'm interested in the answer too because I also have 7x15 & 8x15 Fuchs on my car. I've been looking to upgrade to 7x16 & 9x16 but they command quite a price right now.
As a result, I've been wondering what is the largest tire I can fit on my current setup.

Thanks for all the input. I have two sets of wheels. 15 7+8 and 16 7+8. Hoosier makes the a3s04 in 245-50-15 and 225-55-15 hoosier lists the wheels as 8" for the 245 and 7" for the 225. I think I will give these a try for autocross. They will be much smaller diameter than what I have so I hope they don't rub. I currently have 225 and 205 don't remember the aspect ratio (i think 45 and 50) on the 16" wheels for the street. Toyo T1S work really well.

Well, you can fit a 275 60 15 on a 15x8, but that would be horrible. I've also heard of people getting a 295 50 15 on a 15x8, but that's even worse.
Well, there is a 275 50 15 and a 265 50 15 that will both fit on a 15x8 BF Goodrich Radial TA. Of course, I think all of these are a bad choice. I'd stick with the 225s or upgrade to 16's, but do what makes you happy.

I can see where 275's or 295's seem a bit extreme.
I see ALOT of 245's on 16" rims, why not on 15's??
