Steve McQueen fans click here

Went to Porsche GB HQ (the UK's premiere dealership) tonight for a Le Mans get together. Superb evening with great hospitality from Porsche, good food, great conversation, workshop tour etc.

They had also brought in some spectacular cars for us to sit amongst whilst watching race coverage on the big screen.

Needless to say my camera was working overtime, so here's some quick pics to whet your appetites, will post more tomorrow.

Steve McQueen's 917 from the movie 'Le Mans'.

Ceramics masterclass

Gold star for anyone who knows what this is

No post is complete without a 911 (or three)

The famous Derek Bell machine

A car with some serious provenance

GT2 - the caliper shot is from this car

GT3 in-car footage from Leipzig goes on the big screen

What did they use to wipe the drool up off of the floor? Some serious hardware.

FWIW-I finally bought myself a copy of Le Mans DVD for my b-day, it got here yesterday. "Unfortunately", the real deal is on!

The 911 T/R in the photos was also in the movie Le Mans. During the race you see it crash and McQueen swerves to avoids it damaging his race car and consequently loses his factory drive.

The 356A has a Furhman four cam engine.
The 550 Spyder was bought by Porsche UK for £250,000 and restored in the bodyshop at Reading. These cars currently fetch about 550,000 euros.

The DP 935 also in the showroom is a genuine road going twin turbo 935 - the interior is in fabulous full leather and smalls like a shoe shop.

Fantastic display.

A 917 motor is exactly twice as long as a 911 motor, in fact they were (more or less) 2 911 motors fused together. The photo is an obvious 911 motor, and w/ the 4 valves/cyl. and DOHC + turbo and centerlock wheels, it could only be a 959.

Check this one out, 959 Club Sport in the shop to have the wheels repainted white (not cheap at Reading!)

Real shame I missed that one, had to work all weekend and terrestrial TV coverage was dire.
Did you book the car in for the free check up?
