Hello, Is there really a difference from one make to another? I've only had my 87 coupe for a few months. I figured I would buy a chip by the end of the year. It seems the Steve Wong chip is popular by forum members. The reason for my question is I live close to Vertex Auto, and I see they have there chips on sale this week. If theres no real difference I will buy the Vertex chip. If there is a real difference I will get the Steve Wong chip. thanks

There is so much info on this if you search. Yes, there is a difference, some chips run very rich.

Steve will program the chip according to what you want. He will set up your chip specifically to your car. If you have a particular octane limitation or want is richer, he can do it.

If I had a 3.2, I'd go see Steve.

Talking about chips on this board is like walking into a church and announcing your staunch atheism - you're going to hear people on both sides of the issue who both firmly believe they are right.
Having said that, I recently replaced the Cyntex chip in my 3.2 with a custom SteveW chip and the difference in driveability was instantly noticeable. I wouldn't have thought that Steve could improve the performance much over what was already a non-factory chip, but he did. I was very impressed. Mike (I'm not about to divulge my religious beliefs)

Thanks for the replies. From looking at the archives in the past. I have read that chip threads can have some very passonate debates. I forgot to mention that my car is stock. I plan on keeping it stock except for buying the chip. I was going to base my answer somewhat on Olympic style voting. I was going to throw out the low and the high and base my respone on the middle scores.

I agree with IROC. I did have a Protomotive Chip in for about 5 years and spent alot of money chasing mysterious misses, idle searches, etc. A month ago, or so, I put a Steve Wong chip in....amazing difference in performance and drivability in my '84 3.2 with 129,000 miles. See all the posts here and Rennlist. If you want a chip, the only one for a 3.2 is Steve Wong's at www.911chips.com edit: Usual disclaimers, just a very happy customer with SW's service and product regards, Steve

Steve W is The Man when it comes to Chips. Loren is his alter ego. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction!

Thanks all - the midiclorian count is high in this particular species of chips, thus the performance advantage

Get a SteveW chip, no need to even look anywhere else. His chip rocks, and his service is damn good too. He just sent me an updated revision of the chip although I bought from him about 6-8 months back almost.
