how to make up custom ignition wires
ANy ideas on where I can get the right angle rubber boots to fit over the terminals on a 964/993 distributor?
I need to make up two runs from there to my twin MSD coils (12" long and 15" long) -- I can find made up connectors to fit the MSD but the other (distributor) side boot is too small to fit the Porsche dist. terminals. None of the parts stores carry anything here. We have MB and BMW dealers here and that's pretty much it. All the threads I can find seem to be on making the spark plug (which is all taken care of with the stock plug wires). Thx! |

Use your original boot conector from coil to distributor cap and fix it with the MSD cable.

Check with your local aviation parts store. This should be a good source for many proper fasteners and little rubber things like the boots you are looking for. Good luck....

try Kingsbourne, they`ve got a website and although l`ve never used them for Porsche, everything l`ve gotten so far for other cars has been the best quality l`ve seen. The prices are excellent also.Custom wire set for my Chevy 350 corvette motor-$35.00,with each wire the exact right length and sporting a numbered collar at each end.Chose color and 7,8,9mm etc. These guys rock,l`ll never buy wires from anyone else, but like l said l haven`t tried them for Porsche

I found some wires at CarQuest that almost work - the boot for the distributor is too small. So if I can just find two d*U^*^ right angle boots that fit the 964/993 twin distributors, I'll be OK, I guess. Seems crazy to have to mail order this tiny items.....
Anybody know what I have to have re tools or do to make up my own custom wires? I need a wire from MSD coil to one distr. cap that is 12" long and the other has to be 15" long. A small item that is impeding the whole project.... |

Randy:
All you need are the parts (boots and the brass ends), a set of side cutters and the special crimping tool made for doing plug wires. NAPA sells them,...MSD sells these,....etc.
