Question help-Hard starting...rough running

My '81 was running and starting fine last week, now it won't start on the first or second attempt and it runs rough cold and warm, and backfires slightly at idle. Can this be bad gas? It coincided with a fill up. No other work done besides the fill up. Can I put dry gas in this engine without hurting it? Many TIA. Cheers, Mike

I'm wondering if you didn't spring an air leak in the CIS.

I second the air leak. Check all your hoses and your intake boots/clamps etc. Also check your airbox. Do you have the airbox pop-valve. If so, make sure that it's not loose and it's closed tightly. If not, check your airbox for cracks.

Hey Speed, let me know it you need some help, I have the whole holiday weekend free. I would check plugs, dist cap, rotor, coil, air filter, and air leaks. Have you ever replaced the fuel filter? I heard you start your car on the drive and something is not right.

Sounds like a vacuum leak, but you should also check fuel pressure with a CIS gauge. If you're fuel pressure is too high, you can have similar problems. If your WUR stops regulating pressure the pressure will go up.

Toolman - thanks for the offer. It will have to be some other time, though. I am going to the U.P. for the holiday to see my grandfather. I will get in touch if I need a hand. Have a great fourth. Mike
