emcdan, are you using spacers or running with 45's on the rear? Looks beefy...

Hey MOMO3.2,
I have wondered what the Ducktail would look like on a Targa. I had afeeling it would be THE ONE, and it is! Looks good!
Does it add much 'downforce' [or, for you purists; lessen the 'uplift'?]?

Hello Drums:

I really like ducktails on some Targas too. I think the severe angle and abrupt look of the duck works well with the robust rear end of a Targa. Moreover, the sweep of the Targa bar is repeated in the angle of the duck (notice in my picture angle). It is definitely a more aggressive look.

Thank you for the compliment. I have posted the "new look" for my car twice so far and received a lot of snubbs from Coupe owners. NO ONE has had a single positive comment. I was getting kind of bummed out because honestly, I think it looks much better now and the driving experience has been dramatically improved.

As far as downforce, Jack Olsen posted some good info on various wings he has used on Black Beauty. I think the duck does reduce lift at higher speeds. The Porsche factory developed and used this wing on their own competition cars. I cannot say I have felt any difference though. As a bonus, ducktails help force more air into the engine compartment too.

Again, thank you for the positive comment Drums!

Mike

The Ducktail doesn't have as much downforce as a 'Turbo Tail' but it looks so much better on a Targa. I took off my 'Turbo Tail' because it looked so ugly on my Targa. I went bare, as in your first picture but at 120 MPH plus, the rear end just doesn't stay as planted as with the 'Turbo Tail'. It's good to see a Ducktail on a black Targa. It does look good! Now I know what to put on my black Targa! Thanks!

MOMO3.2,
I agree with you, your targa looks great with the ducktail. I have one on my list to install on mine as well. If anything I can switch the decks back and forth to mix it up a bit.

drums:

Now I remember your car drums. It is awsome. Our cars are pretty much twins (except yours is ten billion time faster with that 3.6).

FWIW, I stripped 400 lbs off my car, added Bilstein Sports, put 9's on the rear and my 7's up front, and had it lowered, aligned and balanced. The change is DRAMATIC. My car is way more responsive, nimble and its faster. Your car would be a beast and a half if you removed 400lbs!

Thanks, Mike.
Nothing beats 'top off' driving! Some guys don't like the Targa; that is their perogative but it sure is nice to go down Hiway 1 through Big Sur on a nice, sunny day with the top off! Go Targas!

That was mine, sold it this morning on Ebay. needed to get rid of it to help pay for this car. 44k miles Orange County all it's life.
Now I am going to sell my 71 455 Slylark to finish it off.

Hey LakeCleElum,
It has been for sale but no serious inquiries yet. It doesn't look like it is going to sell. That doesn't break my heart-I have never really wanted to sell it. The sales effort was a compromise with my wife and now that some time has gone by without much interest, she has resigned herself to the fact that it's ours.
Tip of the day:
If you want to keep your car, modify it heavily and most people will be afraid to buy it.
Most people want an older Porsche to be 100% bone stock. That's fine with me! No takers mean that I get to keep it!
You should see the look on peoples' faces when my old Carrera dusts their newer, stock 993!

We've got a road here in Texas just like the Dragon only they call it the snake. 11 curves in 318 miles. Gentle curves at that.
