Yes, talbot yellow 106 original, I think unique to the 78-80 SCs. The scoops rocks on a bright targa !

Beautiful car in a great color. I loved my '69 E coupe (bahama yellow).

				Targa Brace

Hi Everyone, I designed and built the brace to get rid of the high freq noises from the folding top. It worked and the hi freg noises went away. Also, it stiffen the chassis quite a bit. The people that drove my car were impressed, but I thought I share it with you. A few people have expressed an interest in having it; but to make a business sense, I have to make a run of at least 10-15 sets at $700 ea. Parts are all Alum CNC machined, cross bar is hollowed Al tubing. Weight ~1.2 lb. Parts can be anodized (Black, Blue, Red) at an added cost. Seat belts work as intended. If there are interest out in the community, I'll build it. Best to text 408-799-5047. | ||

Replaced fuel pump and was able to take its first drive this weekend. Steering shakes like mad but I'm attributing it to flatspotted tires. Hoping they become round again after getting some heat into them but they're probably due for replacement anyway (2015 date code).

Well, I only paid about 2x that for mine, so it wasn't too shocking to find substantial rust that apparently is compromising the structural integrity. Even though mine may have excessive wobblitude, I recall enough of my material properties and structures classes to know that even a good Targa will flex some. I took a 6" piece of tape and taped the roof with the car supported by the torsion tube: And then jacked up the engine, and squished the loose tape together: And the result is about 0.3" movement. I'm wondering how far off typical this is and where I can use this test to validate that replacing the rockers and floorboard adequately addressed the issue?

It is comforting to know that I'm not alone. I am still trying to get a feel for how critical the rust issue is and what limitations I should put on moving it around. It's nice to hear that the flex likely isn't an indicator of imminent chassis collapse. It would be nice to be able to limp to the local specialists, if needed.

Also - looks like quite a few Targas in VA judging by the last few posts.

I am restoring a 1970 911T Targa and got to finalizing the Targa top. does anyone know if all Targa tops are of the same size? does one fit all from 1969 to 1985 as most vendors claim . your input will be greatly appreciated . I tried 3 tops so far and none fit well. Many thanks

The one on the market 20 years ago, went vertical, to the seatbelt mounts near the rockers, iirc, and would do a lot more to stiffen than a horizontal bar across a relatively weak Targa bar not designed for longitudinal stiffness. Quote:

I sold my 84 Targa last fall, but now the car is in the Panorama magazine. The picture below was taken in my driveway. I had to drive up and down until he had a good shot, LOL. https://ww2.pca.org/pano/dec-2024/#page=86 The pictures are 4 years old, and since them I changed a few things while enjoy driving. Cheers Engelbert

Can you tell me more about the "older" solution? My car makes pretty power and I'd like to stiffen up a little. TIA.
