Another RS Project. Mine!

Well. Here we go. Its time for me to show off my labor of love. Like anything else I just wanted to do a couple of upgrades and have a nice weekend car and an occational track car. That never happened. As i started taking things apart I didnt want to put in a new part on something that looked old or worn. Thats when the madness happened.

I took the car down to the tub. While I was in the teardown process, I met some great guys at TREMOTORSPORT. Dave B, Jeromy Catrell, and of course Tyson Shmidt. They were the ones to guide me on the project or keep me from going too far out.

Stage 1.
Every nut and bolt was carefully labeled and stored in zip lock bags as I took things apart. At the same time I was in the parts gathering stage. I have to say that if it wasnt for the board, things would have been alot more difficult. Here is what it looked like as a 1973T. Repainted condor green from viper green. It was in great shape with just some minor rust repair.

Here is what it looked like after the teardown to the tub.

Dave B from TRE had his guy come to my house and install a set of real RS flares. You would sware that the guy works for the factory the way he knows these cars and does his magic. As welll as putting on the flares all the little hole from molding, dealer holes drilled out for a/c, rolled fender lips, and any little ding was filled in with metal and lead. If you have to ask how much...

Here are some interior and fender well shots

I asked joe if he new how to replicate an rs front iol cooler scoop and 20 minutes later, it was done. It was designed to fit a B and B Race cooler for whatever motor I decide to go with. I also purchased Elephant Racing finned oil cooler lines as I had no external cooler.Chuck Mooreland was a gratious guy and helped out also.

Stage 2]
The suspention. I purchased front and rear PolyBronze bushings, front and rear monoball as well as front and rear sway bars from Elephant Racing. Real pretty stuff! The front suspention is out of a 84 carrera. The rear is a late model aluminum form an SC. TRE and Kevin P were resposible for the parts. I had everthing powdercoated in semi gloss black. I had the spindles raised and gussets added form Steve Alicon from Johnson Alaingment. The tortion bars are alittle agressive so the may need to be changed out in the future. 23/31. Well see. Revaved bilstiens as per Steve Alicons recomandation.

Tyson Shmidt from TRE will be the person assembling the car. I have to say that I think he wants to see this car on the track more than I do. Well, thats it for now. Ill post more progress as it happens.
BTW, thanks for all the help from you guys on the board. I know me spelling suc$ks but Im a chef not an english teacher...

PS
I just ordered Linsey 8,9.5x17 wheels today. FLAT BLACK!

What madness!!
I love a good write up like this, look forward to more updates on your project. Looks like there is a method to the madness too.
Cool pics of the flares.

Thanks guys. I will post more pics when the suspension is in. Yes, I will be painting it green but it will be Viper Green which is a bit more limey in color. Viper Green is the original color. The car was repainted Condor green by PO.

Thanks Dan. The car should be ready by the end of august. I Would like to try and get the suspension in this weekend if Tyson has some time. Then its paint. After that it goes to in for a headliner and custom RS carpet kit from Dave Bs guy. After about a year its finally coming together.

I dont know yet. Car came with a 2.4 with s pistons and e cams. Tyson and i are going to reveiw the POC rule book and figure that one out. I have so many suspension mods that i dont think i can do anything to the motor. If anything, it will be rod bolts, hydrolic chain tensioners and a bigger oil pump for the front cooler. I dont have to take any points for that.
