Uses for a 5-blade Fan

Since you don't want to use a 5-blade fan on your 6's alternator, what should you do with it? How about a trailer hitch receiver fan.

hmm. that's a good one. OR how about converting a house fan to use it. Or better yet- collect enough of them and buy tv time for informercials on your new "juicematic" ?

Are you interested in selling the fan?

Sorry, the "fan" is not for sale.

It wasn't that hard to make. In addition to the 5-blade fan, I also used a bad alternator for the bearing and hub. I took the alternator apart ad then cut off the armature leaving the bearing, fan shaft and square mounting with the 4 screw taps. I then cut away the bulk of the housing leaving just the bearing cup and 4 screw taps. I then weled the housing to the square receiver, screwed on the bearing/shaft and finally bolted on the fan.

If I we to make another one for sale, based upon the time and effort, I would ask around $150 for it. Best to make your own.

I think the famous submergible 007 Lotus had a propellor out the back just like that.

You could try converting it into a mean food processor.

Sergio; Great idea, excellent execution.

I’ll bet there are many 226 mm 11-blade SC fans and housings decorating garage walls. I think you can make an alternator into a 14VAC motor with an electronic drive. That would make a great desk fan.

Best,
Grady

I have a feeling that it was the thermal reactors and not the 5 blade fans that were mainly responsible for the overheating 2.7's.

For example, in my '77 2.7, the 5 blader seems to cool the motor just fine... even in hot weather. BUT... thermal reactors were removed eons ago and the car has no extra front-monted oil cooler either. The hottest I've ever seen was about 103 C on a 100 C day after about 2 hours of very hard driving. The needle rarely gets past about 92-95 C in the summer, and in the winter (we have very mild winters) the engine rarely sees 80 C.

I've read that the 5 blade fans run faster than the 11 blade fans, and the difference in the volume of air moved is minimal.

Of course, I'm not expert here... but I am just reporting from my own personal experience.
